Schroeder Reference Arm Im curious how one determines that energy is leaking into the tonearm and how resonance in a tonearm is measured or quantified. Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.
Paid a bit too much for a Citation II... Im using a Doge 8 with my Cit II and am very happy
Sme arm "Bridge Removal" I have an SME V that I bought used here on a-gon with a wiring "upgrade?" sans head shell clips and the anti skate defeated. I went all the way and took off the bridge and listened this way for seversl years with a variety of carts and pres. Recen...
What Step-up transformers are best value? Ultimately it will depend on how it interacts with your cartridge and phono pre. In my case the silks outperformed the S&B's. Unfortunately specs and reviews rarely tell the whole story of how an sut will perform in a given system. It would be...
Doge 8 or YS A2 or Jungson J2? Ill chime in again, its three months later and Ive used the Doge 8 with some other power amps and compared it to a few more pres. I also finished a complete restore/ upgrade of my Cit 1. I have a hard time telling the Cit from the Doge. If anythin...
Blue Note reissues I second the Music Matters recommendation. I still buy other reissues and return them if their quality is not up to snuff. If enough product is returned the manufacturers will get the message.
Steelhead vs LP2 etc with Revel Krell and Sota If your thinking about upgrading to an SME table why not save some bread and move up to a current spec Cosmos. Ive compared the 30 to a Cosmos side by side and preferred the Cosmos hands down. Once you get your phono stage and cartridge sorted out...
Best way to spend $2k on a used Turntable & Arm? A used Sota vacuum table is a great value but budget some money to have it inspected by the factory to make sure bearing and vac/power supply are working properly.
Pre + phono under $2500? Pacific valve backs up and services the products they sell. Several of the above mentioned companys have had QC problems and failures in the field. The build quality of the Doge is comparable to any of the above. Im not selling anything here just ...
Pre + phono under $2500? you might try the Doge 8 from pacific valve for $1350. Remote, balanced out, very good MM phono. Has embarrassed many amps costing many multiples of its price.
Doge 8 or YS A2 or Jungson J2? I received my Doge 8 about 2 mos ago. I needed something to drive my tube power amps which are 2 highly modified Cit II's and a highly modified st 70. These amps require a fair amount of input voltage to reach rated output. The Doge has a robust o...
Question regarding reputation of SOTA tables Sirspeedy is right on the money. I have also long experience with the Sota line and would put a Cosmos IV or Millenia up against anything out there. The Millenia adds a further refinement which would be a possible benefit in an extremely revealing...
Graham 2.2 or SME 309/IV/V Tobes, Your right. I have never had a cartridge under perform in my V for lack of adjustment. I will confess I dont adjust VTA/SRA for every record although I have made a few spacer jigs for setup with specific cartridges. Im not knocking those ot...
Graham 2.2 or SME 309/IV/V Im not sure why it is claimed the SME has limited adjustability. I have a V and have owned Grahams and others. I check my set ups with an o'scope. I have found using the supplied alignment jig I can get equal performance compared to other arms (as...
