Mac Laptop & Sound Cards nas is the way to go for storage. imo, get a 4 drive nas system and use raid-5 to setup the nas. this will allow you to use 3 out of the 4 drives for data. even if you go with nas, you will still need a backup. any computer piece can and will fail...
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ? i mentioned in another thread that macbooks or laptops would not be good for a music server. the reason is they get hot and heat will promote an early death for the computer. after using your macbook for a while, feel the bottom. mine gets very ho...

Audio Dealers in Greater Portland OR Area i agree with skamok. the others i would recommend are: pearl audio video (very good people and nice sounds), the audio gallery in lake oswego (gary and cindy owners, nice people), and stereotypes.
Mac Laptop & Sound Cards you don't need a pc, mac's have a much better operating system. with 4 macs, you can do a lot of cool stuff for a distributed whole house music system. you can share your itunes from 1 central mac, you can have each mac in a different room playing...
Attractive room treatment is it possible? i use michael greene floor tunes for the first reflections.
Dummy Guide on What's Needed to hook up Mini Mac laptops would be the worst type of computers to use for a constant music source, they get hot, fan gets really noisy, and the life of the computer will be shortened. Heat is the worst thing for a laptop. why do you think they make those cool pads ...
Dummy Guide on What's Needed to hook up Mini Mac jax2 - i don't understand about not using toslink, do that conversion out of the box. what conversion? it is a digital signal coming out of the mini or airport express going into a external dac via a toslink cable. no different than going out a us...
Music Server vs. PC vs. Transport vs. ? want a nice interface, use your iphone or ipod touch and get an itunes interface to control your music remotely. Sonos is a nice setup if you don't want to get your hands a little dirty in building a more complete setup. i use airport express unit...
Totem model 1 signature or Dynaudio 52 it all depends on the size of your room. if you have a 13 x 13 x 8 ft room, a pair of mani's would generate enough bass. if you are talkng about a 13 x 24ft room, then you will need a sub. there is plenty of bass but the room will dictate how it w...
Dummy Guide on What's Needed to hook up Mini Mac IMO, don't use a laptop for a music server. imac's are great (i got my wife a new 24" imac, very fast) but i think a little mac mini (a g4, g5, or an intel based) would work better. most servers (music,file/print/etc..) are dedicated machines. if ...
How many hours weekly do you listen to your system around 60 or more. i work out of my home and have the music on all day. after work, i go to my dedicated audio room for another 10+ hours a week of dedicated listening.
Stereophile Article - Holt telling it like it is. maybe now they will do blind testing. i really hate it when somebody says that this is the best something that they have ever heard. this is so bogus. they need to hear the gear they are auditioning in the same room using the same other gear or it...
Mac Laptop & Sound Cards Ckorody - i have approx 1500 cd's, 20 sacd's, and hundreds of albums. i use the mini for my browsing the net, for work, and it is also used as a music and file server for the other macs in the house. all the macs backup there disks to the multiple...
Totem model 1 signature or Dynaudio 52 i listened to the dynaudio's before and i prefer the model 1's. i also prefer the model 1's to the dynaudio special 25's and the totems are less than 1/2 the price. if you need more bass, get a little rel sub to compliment the model 1's. thats wha... |
