NAS / media server / streaming newbie The best solution for under or around 5k would be:get a used Mac mini with 2-2 TB external disks for ripping/backupget a lifetime subscription to Roon get a ps audio ds jr dac.Don’t spend $500 to have somebody rip your cd’s, download the free app ...
Do I have to use a streamer/renderer to play music from an NAS? If you want world class sound, keep any pc/Mac/music server out of the room. Put your server in another room and get a good dac with a network card in it. Also, you don’t need a music server/renderer to get music off a nas. If you have a good dac ...
Why do I need Roon? Roon provides features that would be hard for other vendors to implement for a free app. If you pay for an app specifically rather than a part of a product, you have the luxury of hiring more software developers that can tackle more features.
Why do I need Roon? I used to use amarra, pure music, and lastly audirvana. Roon surpasses them all for functionality and SQ. DS Lightning from Auralic and the LUMIN software would come in 2 and 3 behind Roon.Roon provides such features that would, behard
MQA is Legit! The MQA ney-sayers sound exactly like the cable ney-sayers. If you compare these groups, they put down the people that can hear a difference. They state so-called facts, charts, expert comments, and whatever else they can find to support their cau...
Aurender vs. Roon I denied the Aurender against the Auralic Aries a few years ago and much preferred the Auralic which I purchased. The Aurender gimmicks just didn’t do it for me. Also, the DS Lightning app was far superior to the Aurender app. A year ago I decided...
If you love the Ortofon 2M Black, you'll really love...... (help me upgrade) For an introductory cartridge the 2M is good, but far far from the best. The Cadenza line is much better than the 2M. I sold my last Ortofon MC cart and bought a Soundsmith. Very nice and he will take care of you in the future.
Are DAC's overpriced? Analytical is associated with cool sounding, with the benchmark I’ll go with shrill sounding. The Benchmark is way too analytical IMO. At past audio shows, in every room with the benchmark dac, I spent an average of 2 minutes listening, sometimes ...
Hihat Question It’s not just the hi hat, it’s all the cymbals. In 78’ I purchased a pair of ess speakers with the heil air transformer because of their clarity. The heil air transformer is still being used in many speakers today. I’m listening to some old Kansas...
Preamp Choice... a hard call for me. Look at the McIntosh c47 pre, it has a decent internal dac and internal phono preamp for both mm and Mc carts. I like my C47 but use an external dac that supports MQA, a Roon endpoint and it just sounds better. But my external dac cost more than t...
Are DAC's overpriced? Watch out for the people that are trying to sell you something. Also, if you like a cold/analytical sounding dac, get a benchmark. Some dacs are overpriced and there are good dacs priced fairly cheap. I wouldn’t buy a non-fpga type dac, you are to...
Hihat Question As a drummer, for over 45 years when demoing audio systems I always have listened how the cymbals sound. I used to own the usher cp6381’s which were very good especially for the money. If you want to hear a true cymbal sound, go listen to the ushe...
Used Market Savings vs. The Dealer Experience This is why you go to audio shows. You listen to all sorts of gear and you go back home with ideas and start shopping used or new with no guilt. Most individual dealers IMO don’t have everything I want. For example, how many dealers will carry ush...
Well... guess I have to jump in the rabbit hole of speaker cables... lol I have never heard a McIntosh product sound raspy! You don’t have quality cables. I have heard the 10t’s and the 20t’s and thought they were very bright sounding especially the 20t’s. It very well could be a synergy issue. Maybe borrow a friends a...
Connecting confusion You can use rca or toslink coming out of your DVD player and go into your dac or into the Hegel depending on available open ports, you will need to configure the DVD player to output 2 channel instead of multichannel. |
