Best live album you've ever heard?
Hi Marty:"In Their Own Words" was for a time a monthly show at the Bottom Line and each month, for the most part, featured a new cast of songwriters. There was also a touring group of ITOW songwriters just after the show first premiered at the Bot...
Best live album you've ever heard?
Hello Surfgod,No, missed the St Ann's shows. Acoustic artists tend to sound even that much better when in a church. Sounds like it was great.Regards, Rich
Best small intro to tubes?
Vhuang:I would recommend either the Prima Luna Prologue 1 ($1045) or 2 ($1345). They are purchased directly from Upscale Audio (www. upscaleaudio.com). I own a Prologue Two. You can read my review of the Prologue Two here . It will sound excellen...
Do you get Ringing in the Ears from your hi-fi?
Trelja:I wasn't quite going there ... obviously, I was referring to the overall sound or tone of the music. Lately, I look to music to be soothing and beautiful. Opera works, because even though I may know the plot, I can't understand the words .....
Quad 11L owners only, please list the amplifier...
What Hi Fi, a British audio magazine, has done quite a number of speaker/amp shoot-outs involving the Quad 11's over the last two years. In fact, of all the audio magazines, they have featured the Quad 11's more than any other magazine. If I remem...
Do you get Ringing in the Ears from your hi-fi?
Mint:I damaged both eardrums several times by flying while having a cold and/or sinus infection. The typical remedy is a lot of antibiotics for a month or two, along with not flying for a while. I say all this, because even with ear damage, I have...
NAD or Music Hall?
No contest ... it's the Music Hall MMF 25. I had the NAD C320BEE and Music Hall together on/off for 2 years and the synergy of the two is magical. Refer to my review of the NAD C320 BEE that I posted here and/or my 2 channel HT system for further ...
iPod Nano Sound Quality - Your Feedback Please?
Art:I forget whether it was here or at Audio Asylum where someone posted a newspaper review of the iPod shuffle. The journalist was claiming that the amplifier used in the shuffle was of the push-pull variety and was way quieter than the 4th gener...
classical sampler?
Snipes:If this were 25 or 30 years ago, I would suggest starting with something like Stravinsky's "The Rite of Spring." Back then, Frank Zappa (Mothers of Invention) cited Stravinsky as a major influence to his music. Keith Emerson (the Nice &...
Int. amp...most dynamic, full and smooth $3,000
ahbeng:I am a big fan of the Prima Luna Prologue Two. I use the Prologue Two in a secondary system and have paired it with a pair of high efficiency, single driver speakers (Omega Super 3). I find the sound to be very enjoyable and musical for all...
Townes Van Zandt fans?
I believe "Texas Rain" is a CD only release. Tomato Records hasn't done many new vinyl releases since the late 80's/early 90's. The CD has very good sonics and performances, so it's worth picking up.Regards, Rich
Best live album you've ever heard?
Surfgod ...Had the pleasure of seeing RT open for Crowded House at Carnegie Hall in 1991. At about the same time, he became part of a touring group of singer/songwriters put together by WNEW/WFUV DJ, Vin Scelsa. They toured under the program name ...
Musical Fidelity. Tube/Dac question
If you haven't done so already, you may wish to pick up this month's (October) Stereophile, where Sam Tellig reviews the 3.5 integrated amp & cd player, compares them to the A5 series, and incorporates some of Antony Michaelson's (MF's top guy...
Turntables: Vintage Marantz 6300 vs New NAD 533?
Psychic:I don't quite understand the "ouch." Did I mis-lead regarding the Regas ... because it certainly was not my intent. I thought that the NAD was either based on the Rega P3/or was a Rega wearing a different name tag. With that being said, I ...
Turntables: Vintage Marantz 6300 vs New NAD 533?
Igk:Is the vintage Marantz in good shape and being used right now or will you need to get the unit overhauled by someone knowledgeable (good general cleaning; new greasing; part replacements; etc.). To my mind, using vintage equipment is OK, but o...
