tube integrated for Vandersteen 2's
I'm not sure the problem is simply room reflections and bass traps, I'm not sure the room is big enough for driver integration. John Rutan from Audio Connection in New Jersey would probably be the best person to ask, I suspect he has sold more VS ...
tube integrated for Vandersteen 2's
I think Ddd1 is right, unless you are planning a different room in the near future, it seems you do not have a optimal room/speaker combo - other than that, Rogue or ARC seem like good recommendations for use with Vandersteen - at least there seem...
"Best" speakers new/used under $3,000?
Both great, I suspect the HL5 might work better to fill the room 20x16? Again, Merlin and Harbeth and both very nice speakers.
"Best" speakers new/used under $3,000?
Medium. A great space for the Merlin VSMs. Another wonderful speaker are the Harbeth HL5s. I'm in Baltimore if you want to audition the Merlins. If you look at the Audioreview site, I think you might get the idea that a lot of people really love t...
VTL ST-150 vs... ?
Interesting, I was going to recommend the Belles to you, especially with a passive linestage since it has a very high input impedance for an SS amp (100kohm). Perhaps what you seek can be found in a tubed linestage to go with your Belles - you are...
"Best" speakers new/used under $3,000?
This is hard to sort out. Have you heard a speaker you loved over $3,000 that has the kind of sound you are looking for under $3,000.
"Best" speakers new/used under $3,000?
Another vote for used Merlin VSMs - as capt369 stated. the "speaker hunt ended". Though I will say that at the price point new, Maggies and Vandersteens should be auditioned - many happy owners of these three brands.
Best tube integrated with Merlin TSM-MMI?
No, simply counter punches to your insistance on addressing the semantics of "best" - a point you have made in more than one thread - we all get it; there is no "best" in audio (except my VSMs of course).Rob, Bobby has always liked the Merlin, and...
Best tube integrated with Merlin TSM-MMI?
Yes, we know there is no "best" - not sure we have to rehash that every time someone ask the question in the form - I never met an audiophile in 30-35 years that actually ever thought anything was "the best" - it is obviously a ridiculous notion w...
Best floorstanding speakers under $2000
Linaeum66, precisely - bass traps made a HUGE difference for the better, along with side panels to the sides and front of the speakers to absorb side reflections - this was at least, if not more of a change, than any equipment change I have made. ...
Best floorstanding speakers under $2000
I read some of the reviews, it does seem your speakers are well made for rock. I think that Zmanastronomy is right, but it sounds like you have the itch for a change, not simple improving what you already have - true? If not, room treatment is a l...
Best floorstanding speakers under $2000
OP, when you say "best" do you mean in absolute terms? or just in my opinion? I always thought Klipsch was a brand that tended to appeal to those who primarily listen to rock (i.e., loud with minimal compression). The very best floor-standing speak...

Best tube integrated with Merlin TSM-MMI?
I wonder if anyone has tried the SLI-80 F1 Triode version with direct coupling and Zero NFB (wired for triode only). Certainly 40 watts would be more than sufficient to drive the Merlins. I see Upscale Audio advertising it, but I've not heard of a...
