The search among the great ones - 20k+ speakers What ridiculous suggestion did Phaelon make regarding SET? I can't find it. Yes, it starts with speakers than finding the amp to drive them, but if you know you want a tube amp right from the start, that will limit the speakers you can rightfully ...
The search among the great ones - 20k+ speakers Other than saying you sound like a jerk, was there something in Phaelon's previous posts to OP you found objectionable, sounded like reasonable advice; namely, let us know about amplifier considerations and the room you will be using it in. I do a...
The search among the great ones - 20k+ speakers Melchor, which one or two speakers have you heard in you life that you truly loved, that might help in recommending speakers that might appeal to you based on the kind of sound you like. As a general principle I like the type of speakers that Al l...
anyone have experience w/magnum conversion 4 Rogue Holymackerel, have you tried using the EL34s in Magnum yet?
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Wait till George takes out a year's worth of cover 4s:)
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? But he repeats the myth regarding dynamics, which seem very dependent on system matching across the board, then again, what do you write about when you have found the "best preamp ever"? :)
Best speakers to use with Mahi Mahi amps Irvrobinson is 100% right - choose the Merlin VSMs (speakers) first, then find the amp to drive them, the Mahis would be a very good choice.
Atma-Sphere MA-2 amplifier I'm glad someone else heard similar improvements moving from 3 to 3.1, a well worth upgrade for a reasonable price. Ralph's upgrade philosophy is just one of many reasons why I love my OTLs. Congratulations Ralph!
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? Thank you. I do love my Atma. Pre/Amp combo too, nice to use a $20 balanced IC and get SOTA performance.
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? George and AL, Ralph Karsten always makes the point of "controlling the ICs" as the reason for needing and active line stage, and I have to believe Ralph is right about many things regarding equipment, though I also recognize he has an interest in...
The Harbeth phenomenon Constructive.....not. I suppose that would depend on who is commenting. Some people that like music and listening to it as an aesthetic experience, also have critical faculties for judging their equipment - these to traits are not mutually exclusi...
tube integrated for Vandersteen 2's Ah, Well then, Rogue or ARC integrated would be good choices - 50-60 watts should more than adequate power. The Rogue gear appears to be particularly good value, and I don't like the look of the ARC integrates (I like knobs to control functions) b...
Lightspeed Attenuator - Best Preamp Ever? 89db Merlins, .8v sensitivity amp, 2v source - 12 normal 3 as loud as I would ever want.
The Harbeth phenomenon Donjr, what you like is indeed your decision and preference, what is helpful are descriptions of what you hear and comments on performance. So your tastes are yours, but your observations are worth sharing.
tube integrated for Vandersteen 2's I agree, there is a way, but tough without some knowhow on how to deal with the issues, I'd rather get a speaker better suited to the space, a high quality monitor from Harbeth or Merlin for example. |
