Best speakers in the 3000 -5000 range Condescending? No - I don't takes this stuff that seriously. The point is that all the advice being given absent knowing your preferences is close to meaningless - hope that helps. What would help us is for you to tell us what it is about the 804 ...
Merlin VSM MXr vs Thiel 2.4 vs Dynaudio C1 OP, you say you loved the VS 5As, were you able to hear the 3A Signatures as well? I get the sense that most listeners gravitate to either Thiel or Vandersteen, but generally not both, as the sound signatures are quite different. The VS 3As would ...
Merlin VSM MXr vs Thiel 2.4 vs Dynaudio C1 One thing about all three, even though they all do sound quite different is that they all tend to be unforgiving of source and electronics, they all do thrive on the very best gear to feed them, another very fine speaker that you may also want to ...
Best speakers in the 3000 -5000 range Bob, you are making too much sense, stop it.
Merlin VSM MXr vs Thiel 2.4 vs Dynaudio C1 Yeah, really good analogy - thanks for the insight. I'm happy that I am deaf enough to think the Merlins are some of the best sounding speakers on the planet - absent the deepest bass, where it can't compete with the Vandersteen 5As for example, t...
Merlin VSM MXr vs Thiel 2.4 vs Dynaudio C1 Stringreen may have heard the Merlins, but he does seem to hear them differently than most. Perhaps personal taste or something, after all, I heard most Thiels and Dynaudios and unhesitatingly preferred the Merlins - which is why I bought them, mu...
Best speakers in the 3000 -5000 range OP, can you explain what it is you are looking for your speakers to do differently? What kind of sonic change are you looking for? What would an "upgrade" mean to you? Absent that, we can only recommend "good" speakers in your price range, but we ...
Amps and integrateds w/ similar sonic sig to MC275 Music Reference RM200 - it was actually reviewed in December's Stereophile by Fremer I think. I've owned the RM9 Special Edition and use the RM10 MKII in the summer months. Have not heard the RM200s in my system but can't imagine Modjeski creating...
Amps and integrateds w/ similar sonic sig to MC275 If you loved the Aleph, you really appreciate the improved bass performance you'll get with XAs, especially with "difficult" speaker loads - first rate gear, but not tubes:)
Amps and integrateds w/ similar sonic sig to MC275 I will second the notion that the XA.5 based Pass amps and integrated are among the finest SS amps made and the one that most tube lovers would have the easiest time living with - it does seem that Pass amps, at least the Class A amps are very con...
Amps and integrateds w/ similar sonic sig to MC275 " is it fair to say that at least some of the sound from the MC275 is a result of the KT88's? If I consider KT88 amps from other companies, is there a likelihood that there will be a sonic similarity, or is it likely that the circuit topology of t...
Tube AMP or SS Agreement feels better:)
Tube AMP or SS DM, got it. Unsound, what drum would that be? Not recognizing thecurrent/voltage paradigms regarding speakers, or do you mean something else? I do agree, you can buy a lot of SS watts to make up for SS clipping, and that is indeed one strategy. An...
Tube AMP or SS Tubes do none of those things, but they certainly handle clipping differently, and that is the difference that makes a difference, but I thought that was long settled, uncontested and understood. It is not tube voodoo, they simply handle overload ...
Tube AMP or SS Darkmobius, when you say "outperforming" do you mean quality, or apparent loudness? Certainly the factors you mention have alot to do with one amp outperforming another amp qualitatively, having little to do with watts. |
