Joule Preamps?
Clio09, do you find your TVC to be warmer than the LA-150MKI? I'm currently using a Placette Active which replaced a CAT SL1 Ulitmate. I am very happy with the Placette, but am wondering if there is something out ther I might like better. I've bee...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Tbg, you are right. I guess I meant to say the "consensus" in my own mind that comes from filtering the various opinions of people who over time make sense to me. It is a good to have a dialogue with other enthusiast - the dealer experience has us...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Factory Direct with 30 Days is the only way to truly find the right piece, or by used on Audiogon, and if you don't like it sell for more or less the same price. I think this may take the thread in a different direction, but I think you make a goo...
Joule Preamps?
I know there are several users out there familair with the Joule equipment, so I'll try to get this question back up the list. I'm especially interested hearing from those that may have heard the new LA-150 MKII to know how it compares with the MK...
Ars Sonum Filarmonia and cable length.
Long ICs and short speaker cables is the general consensus for best sound. Although one does have to be careful about overall IC capacitance and the amplifier output impedance. I would discuss with the amplifier manufacturer.
Transparency: What speakers have it in spades?
Doesn't transparent mean true to the source with minimal added distortion and without frequency abberations? That is, a speaker that does not "color" the sound (all recordings being affected) with its own personality? By the way, by this definitio...
DAC for $1800 or less?
I would look into the Audio Logic 24MXL -- a tube unit designed by Jerry Ozement; one of the great digital designers that did work for Thor, Altis, and many others. I used one as a DAC being fed by an ARC CD3 MKii which was and is a very fine soun...
What is the best DAC ever made?
I don't know if it "smokes" the competition, but I bought the Accustic Arts Transport/DAC combo mentioned above - it is indeed a wonderful "unit". Of course I have not compared with Esoteric/DCS/EMM etc (but Teajay did - he bought the AA), but onl...
Passive Pre - No Regrets?
Kensetsu, I think that does make sense. Do you have specs on the unit? Output impedance?
BAT vk-52SE vs ARC Ref 3 vs CJ CT 5
RVC stands for Remote Volume Control - it can be used to add remote control wiht preamplifiers that do not have remote capability. When I used it in this way with my CAT SL1, I could hear no change in the sound of the CAT, the RVC is that transpar...
Placette
One searches for "giant killers" in this hobby. Here you find the $1,000 RVC replacing a CAT SL1 (my system)and a BAT-51SE (Elberoth2)system. These are highly regarded, top of the line tube preamplifiers, and the RVC was at the very least competit...
Former Merlin Owners
In many ways I think they are perfect speakers for me. I don't listen too loud, never had a problem with SPLs, and I listen mostly to acoustic jazz (think Blue Note)and other acoustic type of music. I don't feel any lack of bass in my application,...
Can any player challenge Audio Aero Prestige SE ?
I just wanted to add Accustic Arts to the discussion. I have not compared them to anything beside my recent digital set up of ARC CD3 MKII with/and without an Audio Logic 24MXL DAC - I don't know if either is SOTA, but not too shabby. The AA units...
best or craziest speakers' design..
The Gallo speakers are pretty unusual, not too expensive, and you might even like the way they sound.
Placette
I replaced my CAT SL1 MKII with the Placette RVC after having bought it simply to provide me with remote volume control. At $1,000 with a 30-day trial you cannot go wrong -you can use your own ears in your own system without out having to rely on ...
