Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
Thanks for your comments Bob. It is the very fact that you sometimes think your system sounds best direct into the wall that makes me wonder about the affect of conditioning. They obviously protect the equipment from spike and surges (or should) a...
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
What is the primary benefit of good clean power? Is it less extraneous noise? or does it affect that actual sound staging, tonal balance, etc? that is, does it remove errors of comission? I don't know if I'm clear with my question. I find it easy ...
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
Thank you Phaelon. I'm going to invest sometime researching some of the pieces that others have had some sucess with. My leanings are toward believing that what will work best is a high quality passive power strip with good wire, connectors, and o...
Q. on shootout between time/phase coherent speaker
If 1st Order xovers are easy to drive why are Thiel and Vandersteen not easy to drive. They are both fairly inefficient with dips in impedance down to 4ohms or less - not the defintion of easy to drive. I'm no engineer, so I don't know anything ab...
CAT JL-2 amp upgrade
Thanks for your response Posbwp555. I had been considering a Joule LA150 MKII for the reasons you suggested. In speaking with Bobby at Merlin (I own VSMs) he suggested that rather than go that route I might want to try (I ordered it) the Ars Sonum...
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
That's great news. I'm willing to try it. Thanks.
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
Krell_Man, do you have all your equipment plugged into the Power Wing?
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
The Power Wing seems interesting, the more I read about this the more it seems that passive conditioning would be the way to go. Do any of these companies offer 30-day trials?
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
Cytocycle, thank you for an excellent assessment and analysis of the power product landscape - it is real helpful in clarifying the issues. I have dedicated lines and Virtual Dynamics power cords that I believe are good enough. I need two outlets ...
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
I do hear about complaints with certain aspects of the Power Plant - noise from the fan being one of them. The idea of a pure 117V, 60 hz current sounds appealing, but I do wonder if there is a price to be paid for all the "processing" of the curr...
Power Conditioners Suited to Digital Front End
I want the cheapest thing that works well, but would pay $3000 if it was worth the improvement. I was thinking of a Power Plant 300, but am totally open to suggestions. I want to optimize the perfomance of by Transort & DAC. I did buy a $3,000...
Review: Ars Sonum Filarmonia SE Tube amp
Hi JB. I'm at the stage where you said,"I really hesitated before going for such a "reasonably" priced amplifier, and such a small one at that. How could it rival bigger, much more expensive machines? What would be the trade-off?". I've ordered th...
How many watts are you pushing your Merlins with?
I've just ordered Bobby's Ars Sonum 30 Watt integrated for the VSM-MXe. I will be comparing it with my 100 Watt, Class A, Triode CAT JL2s - with which Bobby is quite familiar, having shown with CAT in previous years. So apparently, he thinks 30 Wa...
Upgrade from Merlin VSM-M to What?
Well, I did it. My order is in for the Ars Sonum. It will be interesting to A/B against the Placette Active (which I prefered for the CAT SL1)/CAT JL2 combo. I don't believe for one second that the Ars Sonum is the equal of the CAT Amp, which IMHO...
Accustic Arts
Thanks Optarchie, that lends some context to your comments. I get the feeling that we are talking about several pieces of gear, all of which are first rate. I also suspect the preference for one over the other might be dependent on the rest of the...
