SS Amp to replace VAC 300.1 in a side-ways move?
I have not heard the DarTZeel, but I'm sure it is a good option. The best SS I have heard that had some tube-like character was the Pass XA.5 series of amps. I think the SS gear from Symphonic Line is also suppose to be a great SS amp that can sat...
Question on DACs...........
It sounds like a very lateral move, not sure what you upgrade strategy is here.
What is the best DAC ever made?
I cannot speak for the EMM Labs DAC as I now own the CDSA, I also have not owned the AA Tube DAC, but the DAC IV, but after listening to more and more music with the EMM in MY system, I have to agree that the EMM offers much more information, spec...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
Hi Teajay. Of course I did not ever hear the TubeDac, so I have no idea if I would have liked it better than the DAC IV or how it might compare to the EMM CDSA SE (current version with upgraded transport and feet). Like the AA gear, I bought it es...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
Karl and Teajay, I do wonder about this issue of warmth, which I suspect is somewhat attenuated or enhanced by system context, I wonder if a tube dac in an all tube pre/amp combo is too much of "something" versus an SS based system. I've always th...
Recommendations for a small tube amplifier?
I would put a Music Reference RM10 (EL84) on your list.
What is the best DAC ever made?
Dev, did you, like Teejay, also have an opportunity to compare the Tube DAC with the DAC MKIV? I´m not sure why, but I do get the idea, that all the DACs discussed are beyond bad, all quite excellent, but we like to find differences; what a hobby ...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
The Berekely Alpha obviously has a lot of press buzz, and given the folks behind it, I assume it is more than just another flavor-of-the month product. Has anyone been able to compare this $5,000 player with top gear from EMM, dCS, Esoteric, Accus...
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
Is it fair to say that the DAC that can handle Redbook and SACD like EMM, dCS, and Esoteric don't handle Redbook as well as those DAC committed to Redbook?
Reference DACS: An overall perspective
I would like to revice this thread, that among the best threads I've read over the past few years. With digital changing so rapidly, I'd like to hear what experiences the group has had since the last post in September 08. My goal is to have the ve...
weiss /Berkeley DAC
bump - update?
Joule - Electra: Just How Hot??
Again, "build-quality" and "reliabilty" are two different things. I've never known the Joule stuff to be anything but reliable. Build quality is a little more subjective and debatable, more related to fit and finish than whether the thing works an...
Joule - Electra: Just How Hot??
I'm not sure the build-quality comments refer to the reliability of the units. As far as I know Joule amps are quite reliable in general.
What is the best DAC ever made?
I'm very curious how the Berkeley might comparte to Zanden, Accustic Arts, Esoreric, DCS, and other DACs of that ilk.
What is the best DAC ever made?
I've heard alot of buzz about the Berkeley DAC, but have no idea how it might compare to some of strong units from a year or two ago, not even sure that there is much real progress being made in digital processing, the "numbers" seem to get better...
