Best digital stream player On a realted note, is it possible for any traditional transport to be as good as something like the Olive HD feeding a high quality DAC?
The closest approach: what amplification? I think Atma-sphere's comment were meant for designers of equipment, where, if not physics, at least some knowledge electrical engineering and psychoacoustics would be more than useful.
VTL 7.5 versus Joule preamplifier The Placette Active is a great preamp, but with the Merlins using the BAM, an active TUBE preamp works better; few better than the Joule preamps (I owned the 150MKII, and now own the 150MKII SE - which is said to be more like the 300ME). Like Blin...
Which Preamp will go well with Mag 3.6R ? I'm not clear. You say $5000 for CD and pre - how much do you have budgeted for an amp? or is that included in the $5000?
Cayin A-88t vs. Almarro A318B Are the 318A and Bs intended for different types of speakers? Do you lose something with the Bs in order to get more current?
The closest approach: what amplification? Hate to sound like I'm getting on the OTL bandwagon, but I guess I am. I've tried all types of amplifiers, many very highly regarded Class A tube and SS, at least with my speakers (Merlin VSM - smooth, highish impedance)nothing has sarisified me m...
best monitor speaker under $2000 "12-18-09: RleffI would consider looking at some of the used Merlin monitors for sale that are in your price range;if you are interested then call Bobby at merlin for his opinion on how well they would perform with your rotel as I am not familiar ...
what do you use to remove your tubes? "12-19-09: SebrofFingers.I've always believed the myth came from other types of bulbs that get very hot. In a previous job I dealt with 1000w bulbs and the word there was don't touch." That was precisely the reason Roger Modjeski gave for the tube...
emm labs dac2se vs puccini By the way, I am not claiming there are not difference between these great digital brands, I'm only saying that one should be careful with the idea of one of these being the best, they are all good, they are slightly different perhaps, but one can...
Upgrading Cayin A88-T: what is next? I think the M60s are close to the best amplifiers I have ever used; should be interesting to get your impressions - I love them and I have been through a lot of gear - they were the first amps that got me to sell my CAT JL2s without looking back, ...
what do you use to remove your tubes? Can't think of any reason you can't use latex gloves, as long as they are not hot when you do so. Just be patient when you remove tubes, this is one case where being gentle will save you some heartache.
emm labs dac2se vs puccini From my experience if you compare dCS, EMM, and Esoteric it is very hard to say one is better than the other - they are all outstanding and would be suspect of those that claim huge differences and that one is clearly superior (none of these piece...
what do you use to remove your tubes? I asked Roger Modjeski (Ram Labs, Music Reference) about this, and he said the idea that you should not use your hands is a myth, he then explained to me why, but I don't remember his rational). I don't know, I still use a glove, but he does know ...
Are Harbeth S HL5's As Good As Reviewers Claim? I get the feeling the designer knows the kind of sound he likes and that his speakers are very well desinged towards that goal - he knows what he is doing, and he speakers are well sorted out. You cup of tea? Who knows, but obviously many folks ar...
stereo amp vs monoblocks, any advantages? Are there advantages to monoblocks? Maybe. But I would not hesitate to buy a well designed stereo amp because of those theoretical benefits - I own both types. I don't think it is something to worry too much about, if at all, IMHO. |
