Scratch removal before ripping
Go to your local auto parts store and pick up some fine scratch removal creme (i.e. polishing compound) for about $5-10 per tube. You now have a lifetime bounty of scratch removal product for you AND your friends.Just use a little dab on a cotton ...
Periphery Record Rings
I saw his sale for the rings posted a couple of weeks ago, but nothing since. Is he selling these somewhere else or is he still doing some tweaking of the final product before he offers them for sale on a regular basis?I'd love to hear more impres...
Heavy Power Cords
I've actually rigged up a little sling for both my amp and phono stage, where the weight of the cord wants to pull it down. I just took some string and looped it around the shaft of the cord by the IEC plug. Then I twisted a metal clip to atach to...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord
Perhaps you might want to take a closer look at your crossover in the speakers. Perhaps a cap change in the tweeter to something with a gentler disposition might be the uptimate answer. Something like a Mundorf Silver and Oil might smooth it out w...
Rolled some 12ax7's recently...
I have a Hagerman Trumpet phono stage, and Jim Hagerman said not to use them over the 12AX7, but it sounds so much better. There was no reduction in gain that I noticed. In fact, it sounded louder because of the increased dynamics. It was also cle...
Question concerning power cords . . .
John is right. Power cords are very system dependent. I don't know if I can confirm what I'm about to state, but I've found that they seem to make more difference on components that have larger transformers in their power supply, like amps (tubes ...
Rolled some 12ax7's recently...
Just replaced my Tung Sol 12AX7's in my phono stage with the Black RCA 5751's. This is the way to go if you can handle the slightly different tube. More dynamics/punch on the bottom end, smoother on top and just clearer overall.Bob
VPI Periphery Ring With Clearaudio Performance
The only possible problem is centering the ring. Records are not always punched with the hole dead center. So using a weight around the periphery could make this "wobble" more pronounced, affecting speed stability. Please let us know how it works f...
VPI Tnt Questions
I can vouch for the thread. I've tried pure silk (which I like best) and 100% Rayon. Don't shoot the messenger, but there is a sonic difference between the two, the Rayon sounding a bit more defined but with a slightly less organic quality. Go fig...
Cheap Plater dust cover
Why not just put an old beat up record on it and leave it there?
Considering new amp - Mccormack
McCormack's are nice amps. Lots of owners here to testify to that. Best bet is to pick up one that already incorporates Steve's mods. That takes them to a whole different level.Bob
VPI motor
Don't know if you realized this, but the PM 3202-001 is not listed on that page link.

Periphery Record Rings
I've had some correspondence with Larry, the seller of the rings in the link I posted originally. He does address the possibility of the ring being non-concentric as follows (I hope he doesn't mind my posting this information, but it does help exp...
need warm and LAID BACK hi-rez/focused power cord
"My only complaint is some bite on midrange forward instruments like some horns and piano on SOME recordings. Do you feel the Kaplans would be a good choice to tame this effect?"All I can tell you is what the Kaplan cords did for my system. As oth...
