VPI Rim Drive vs. belt drive sound files I hear people complaining that they are still trying to get speed stability with the VPI rim drive. Is there a similar issue with the teres solution?Do these rim drives have stable pitch/speed, or do they still require and SDS or something similar...
Kubala-Sosna power cords? We compared a few different power cords at a recent NY Rave meeting. A KS cord was there and it easily bested the bunch on both the amp and the DAC. Definitely the nicest sounding power cord I've ever heard, and I've listened to a few. Pricey, but...
Antiskating .... The last analog secret I checked my antiskate over the weekend by eye. Set it to zero and didn't notice any sideways movement of the stylus as it dropped into the groove. Set it high and also didn't notice any changes. I have a Dynavector 20X-H on a Moerch DP6 tracking ...
Subsonic Rumble Solutions There is cone movement on both. It is not audible on my speakers (which go down to about 30Hz I would guess, but due to the slope is probably still putting out into the 20's but at a lower level). The pumping on the subwoofer is noticeably greater...
Subsonic Rumble Solutions I got some 180gm Acoustic Sound LP's for christmas. I have to say the subsonic pumping is almost gone with these. yes, there's still a little cone movement, but not like a regular flimsy record. So the problem I'm having seems to be more record de...
Subsonic Rumble Solutions Bob#2 - as much as I don't like to say it, because it might hurt some feelings and because we all know the size of our system reflects the size of our audio-manhood :-), I have to agree with you. The subsonic problems I seem to have now were not t...
You've Won the Lottery: Your Dream System, Now. I think it would be nice to audition any piece of equipment you could want to, but ultimately I think I would want to get to a place where I didn't want to change out anything. Isn't that bliss, rather than changing out equiipment all the time?Enj...
How to reproduce sound of piano I have a slightly different perspective on how a piano should sound - from the keyboard. Yes, I play.I've often found that someone who listens at concerts to a piano on a stage has a very different view of what that piano should sound like than so...
10 Levels of Turntable Mastery I think I'm still somewhere between a 4 and a 6 on this scale. Now, if I could conquor that deep bass woofer pumping problem that I'm experiencing using mechanical means and without going to an electronic subsonic filter, I might move myself up to ...
Antiskating .... The last analog secret Get rid of that Phantom piece of junk and buy yourself a Rega :-)
Subsonic Rumble Solutions Here's an update. I bumped into Michael fremer. he suggested adding some Bluetac or Moretite to the headshell, effectively increasin the mass of the tonearm and changing the compliance. unfortunately this didn't change anything.another suggestion ...
Crossover upgrade capacitor question I suggest bypass on the tweeter from practical experience. I tried them on my mid/bass crossover caps and found that there was a pronounced forwardness and over prominence on the upper midrange that threw the whole speaker out of balance. Now, YMM...
Crossover upgrade capacitor question I would also suggest bypassing the caps in the tweeter circuit, each with a smaller .1uF cap. Don't do this in the mid or woofer sections though, just the tweeter.Enjoy,Bob
$1k preamp for McCormack DNA-125 recommendations? I would highly recommend looking for something tubed over SS. Not that you couldn't find a nice SS to mate with it, just that these amps work quite well with tubes. You could also look into passive pre's, since the McCormack's are designed to work ... |
