BOXING THE THIELS: A Sort Of Tutorial:As this is something of a knowledge dump for Thiel speaker owners, I figure I may as well relay my recent packing experience with the big 3.7s. Who knows, maybe it will come in handy for someone down the line ...

Agreed about amps. When I had to take my CJ monoblocks in for repair that was nasty. My back didn’t feel well for a while afterward. And I know some of the giant solid state behemoth amps are a whole different ball game. You need to keep a spare fo...

Quite true, Ron.In fact, ironically the much smaller Joseph Perspective speakers I'm contemplating are almost as heave as the 3.7s (just over 80 lbs, vs 91 lbs for the 3.7s).

Someone bought my Thiel 3.7s. Fortunately the buyer is arranging pick up from my house, where they will be put on a pallet by the shipping company. That has still of course left me with packing them in to their boxes. Wow...not easy! It took a loo...
Am I hearing things?
blueranger,I have not seen very plausible looking arguments to establish that all those things need "burn in" and change sound. But it is very well established that our perception alters readily. On an anecdotal level: I often play around with the p...
Harbeth 30.1 ? The Ultimate Speaker under $5K ?
@tommypenngottiI am a drummer so I love fat , tight kick drum. Rock i.e.: Rush , Prince, old 70s / 80s fusion/Jazz Like another poster, this immediately made me think you are an ideal customer for the Devore 0/93 speakers (which I’ve been audition...
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
teo_audio,You already tried that shtick:https://forum.audiogon.com/discussions/beware-the-audio-guru?page=4(I’m neither new to philosophy, nor to the philosophy of science. So please try to do better than the throwing-philosophical-spaghetti-at-th...
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
No need to chase Teo’s usual phalanx of red herrings.Instead of his usual throwing a bunch of confused sounding philosophy at a thread and hoping something sticks, or at least baffles someone, I’ll wait for the day Teo presents a cogent argument w...
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
cleeds,Yes, I have had a hearing test. Have you? The tests I’ve been part of don’t tell me what I hear at all. Rather, I have to tell the audiologist what I hear. Without that feedback, the audiologist knows exactly nothing about what I hear.Ob...
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
calvinj,But you listening ear is your ear. No one can tell you what you don’t hear. Uh...yes they can.Ever had a hearing test? Why do you think we invent instruments to detect things our senses alone can not detect? Are you convinced all reality is ...
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
cleeds is correct on the point about being able to scientifically quantify abilities such as "skill in listening."  Human variability is quantified all the time in the sciences, from variations concerning what people are good at, to what people li...
Cable Burn In
fleschler,Right, so you listen to cables. Ok.I don’t care that a machine will tell me that they all test the same other than for capacitance, inductance or resistance. The manufacturer tests for the basics. What we do is determine if sonically, we...
DO CABLES REALLY MATTER?
edgewear,You are making a claim that others have made here: that it takes a really high resolution system for cable differences to become apparent.1. But as I keep pointing out: People with "lower res" systems have been talking about and reporting...
Cable Burn In
fleschler,Just curious:  What do you mean you are a "cable tester" for a small manufacturer?Do you mean you are an electrical engineer and you are part of production, and take various measurements of the cables and find an objective measurable dif...
Thiel Owners
tomthiel,Can you tell me:  what was Jim's thinking about loudspeaker design before he started producing time/phase coherent speakers?I still have my old Thiel 02 (circa 76' ?) and love them.   Was Jim going for flat response as a main attribute......
