the Krell will for sure drive it and give it an authority, but the McIntosh is the best overall balance sound for the JBL.....hard to say why.....

I would use McIntosh amps....... 
McIntosh and "hard" music?
It is more of what speaker you will drive with the Mac's....if you run SF then it will for sure not be "rock" system, but if you run Klipsch horn speakers or old Altec 19 or JBL 43xx series speakers you will have hard time to get the girls out of ...

If you can just put it together and use tiny bit of white paper glue it should be OK. Even without the glueing it will not matter in sound, just the cosmetics....

I think the max will be 500W transformer for the CD player.....it is a bit more complex in real world as the quality of the power supply section of the player will be the key for the integration of the step-up/down.....but you can for sure you is ...

there are differences with the step ups and the sound....generally go for more as 10X the source requirement....the bigger the better, but do not overdue it. It will actually 'IMPROVE' the sound of the player....

I have reel to reel player for my tapes from 50 and 60 ties, turntable for the late 60ties and 70 ties and CD player for the rest.....I have to confess....I am buying the Japanese remasters of the Blue Note, Riverside and Prestige on Cd's lately.....
