Specifications VS Sound Quality
I think it’s best to consider technical specs to be an indicator of the quality of the item rather than how it will sound. Harmonic distortion describes how linear the amplifier is (how closely the output resembles the input) which is important, h...
Genelec 8351b with 2x 7370 vs Sopra No2 vs Atc 50 ASL
I only have experience with Genelec  out of your list. They are great and extremely accurate monitors but are designed for sound engineers (who want to hear the bad as much as the good in a recording) so do nothing to flatter the recorded material...
Why don't more recordings have soundstage outside of speakers
If all early reflections are well dampened it is physically impossible for sound to come from beyond the speaker without studio tricksThat’s quite a bold statement... what’s it based upon?.. happy to be educated if there’s some definitive research...
Why don't more recordings have soundstage outside of speakers
Great... it's a brilliant LP.
Why don't more recordings have soundstage outside of speakers
I find all the disdain for tricks and gimmicks quite amusing - the whole thing is a trick unless you summon your own string quartet every time you listen to music. But I guess you could say that there is a continuum of musical production from the ...
Why don't more recordings have soundstage outside of speakers
@mahgister I meant averagely good acoustically which is not measurable but I think most would know what I meant. if you want to make everything sound like mystery and magic then go ahead, there are some basic acoustic principles that are worth try...
Why don't more recordings have soundstage outside of speakers
As others have said there is a sound engineering 'trick' in which you pan an instrument or sound hard to one side and then mix in the same track panned hard to the other side but 180˚ out of phase. At the mixing desk it pops the track right outsid...
Channel imbalance with turntable playback
Might be worth trying your TT on a friend's system or at a dealer's to see if it is the source of the problem... the imbalance is unlikely to be affected by the cartridge connectors so probably best to leave those as intended.
Channel imbalance with turntable playback
If you want to get to the root of the problem then probably best to follow the suggestions for anti-skate and cartridge setup first. If you don't mind the reversal of left / right channels then that's fine and will result in no other undesirable a...
What's the best plating material for interconnects plugs ?
In my experience it's down to how good the contact is and whether it gets disturbed. If it's clamped tightly and rarely moved then copper or sliver are fine, if it's a press fit (like RCA, XLR or banana) then gold on gold eliminates worries about ...
Biggest audio hoaxes
Graphene solutions.I agree that new super materials are used for gimmicks, but there are practical applications for graphene in audio. I'm just about to order a pair of these drivers from Seas... I'm interested in seeing whether the 20-2000Hz clai...
Lack of Female Representation
I think this thread is a good example of why most people (regardless of gender, ethnicity or age) think twice before posting. I bet there's a damn sight more knowledge, experience and wisdom among the lurkers than there is among the sum of contrib...
Does length matter ?
There's no technical reason to keep them the same length (within reason). That cable is 1.03Ω/1000ft, so if you had one 10ft and the other 20 then the difference in resistance would be 0.0103Ω which is negligible and will make no difference to the...
Ground Wire
Connecting the phono grounds may work, but it shouldn't be necessary... are all the amplifiers plugged into the same outlet? If not try that first.
Upgrading entry level system
If you really want to get the most out of your $1000, have you thought about DIY or kit loudspeakers? These sound a lot better than they should for the money. At least half of my listening is old punk rock with lousy production values but the rest ...
