What is a non-active pre-amp stage?? Are their advantages to this design?? I just re-read the original post and realised I'd forgotten we were talking about an integrated amp (not a passive preamp). You will be able to trust the engineers have taken into account the impedance internally (and so can disregard most of what...
What is a non-active pre-amp stage?? Are their advantages to this design?? Just to be clear, an active preamp doesn't have to add gain, there is benefit to be had in using the active component/s to present a high impedance to the source and low impedance to the load. DIYers are in a better place to decide which way to go...
Speaker kits recomendations Maybe Horn TL hybrid lets talk speaker kits I know you're looking for a flat pack solution but if you could get a carpenter to make up the cabinets for you there are some great designs on the Seas website. I made the A26 as an experiment and was blown away by the cost/performance ratio.I've...
Something For The Fuse Guys ... BS tweak vendor Geoffkait (Machina Dynamica)Just looked at the website... that's hilarious, I'll bow out gracefully now. Geoffkait, feel free to have the last word.
Something For The Fuse Guys ... Had to think twice before posting here as I may be perceived as a heretic. But I think just for the sake of people who stumble across this thread looking to learn something it has to be said that any amplifier which sounds different after you chan...
Why do YOU love Vinyl/or hate vinyl fleschlerThe mastering of the format is generally the key to great sound. You've hit the nail on the head for me. As an engineer I know that vinyl is a hugely outdated and compromised format that requires electronic acrobatics just to get a flat fr...
Amps with meters ... I use the meters on my preamp and they have a practical purpose. I can monitor (and adjust) the phono stage gain or monitor the output level that shows me my system has around 15-20dB of headroom at normal listening levels... oh and I can switch i...
What is a non-active pre-amp stage?? Are their advantages to this design?? I am considering an Conrad Johnson CA-150 integrated amp which offers a "non active pre-amp stage"Need and explanation of this design. What are its pros and cons?? Does it provide better sound quality or performance, than an "active pre-amp sta...
Interconnect Directionality I'm not sure if any so called hi-end cable manufacture uses shielding in their speaker cables. I'm pretty sure AQ doesn't. I do know the Clear Day Shotgun and Double Shotgun speakers cables don't.Making speaker cables with shields is probably not ...
Interconnect Directionality A coax cable is a shielded cable.Yes that's correct… I was referring to the original post that saysThere is no shield so this is not a case where one end of the cable’s shield is grounded and the other isn’t. and my comment is that in most home en...
Interconnect Directionality Going back to the OP's original post, I think there might be a rational argument for the difference in perceived sound. If the cables aren't shielded then you're running a couple of antennas that will be highly sensitive to external interference so... |
