Need Two Way Speaker Switch That Won't Negatively Impact Sound
@douglas_schroeder Okay, so you say you've never been able to use a switch on an amplifier output without degrading the sound and I say I have. That's not very helpful for the OP... maybe you have remarkable hearing and mine is worse than I think,...
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
Depending on the number of drivers you have (remember you'll need an amplifier channel for each one) you could look at one of the MiniDSP solutions. If you have three way speakers and are on a budget you could start by replacing the Mid / Bass cro...
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
Yep... difficult to design but not that difficult to copy.
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
I don't know why active loudspeakers haven't caught on in the consumer market, but there are many examples in recording studios. I have some active Genelec monitors which sound great as nearfields although they won't be to everyone's taste. Techni...
Go Active Crossover or Upgrade existing XOs?
An active crossover is implemented before the power amplifier so you need to have an amplifier for each driver. For this reason it is also referred to as Bi-Amping, Tri-Amping etc.A speaker with a passive crossover can present a complex and diffic...
Should Subwoofer Be Plugged Into Same Circuit?
If your equipment supports it then a balanced connection between the amp and sub would mean you wouldn't need to worry about ground loops at all and can plug in the sub wherever you want.
Need Two Way Speaker Switch That Won't Negatively Impact Sound
@douglas_schroeder All mechanical switches degrade, period. That's quite a blanket statement... what is the mechanism by which this degradation occurs?Putting a cheap switch with poor materials is a superb way to diminish sound quality.I don't real...
Need Two Way Speaker Switch That Won't Negatively Impact Sound
There's no reason why a well designed, appropriately specified switch should degrade the sound. I don't know what commercial options there are but if you're willing to DIY then I'd just select a switch (or two) which is over rated for the voltage ...
Thoughts on discreet tubs, transistors vs. IC chips, op-amps.,.etc
I think itsjustme was specifically referring to resistors right on the integrated circuit@atdavidAh... okay, that makes more sense. As you imply 'accurate' is a bit of lazy shorthand... I meant an accurate rendering of the output signal into the i...
Thoughts on discreet tubs, transistors vs. IC chips, op-amps.,.etc
On the other hand the very geometry and small size leads to compromises, and things like connecting resistors etc. must, in reality, be semiconductors -- not metal film, carbon film, etc. This isn't true, I use thin film smd resistors which are ver...
What's more important in a difficult room, room correction or higher, clean, power?
The problem with room treatment is the amount of it you need to treat low frequencies, that's where I think DSP can be useful. For example 1/4 wavelength of 80Hz is over a metre... it's going to take a big bass trap to deal with that. The multiple...

Have a read of this... might be worth thinking about different speakers. DSP on a sub is never a bad idea though.
Preamp with HDMI inputs
The miniDSP nanoAVR HDA might work for you, I’ve had my eye on it for a while but the 2ch downmixer in my HDMI switch seems to be fine. The miniDSP has the benefit of letting you decide how to mix the surround channels plus pretty much any other t...
Re-capping Modular Component Systems 3222 Receiver
For the cap voltage rating take the existing values as a minimum, higher voltage ratings will make no difference. Nichicon are a reliable brand and have a wide range of polarised and non-polar electrolytics... look at the 'Muse' series.
Mark Levinson has odd choice for cap upgrades in one of their service bulletins. Why?
@georgehifi The XR7’s are great for HF filtering, I use them on dac I/V stage voltage rail decoupling. That’s why ML are recommending them. That’s the answer, XR7 would be the first choice for this application... makes me wonder why they used PP in ...
