Tube in Preamp or Power amp? Tube amp will have more of a tube sound. The best is to get both. If you can't afford seperates, get a tube integrated amp like a CarySLI 80. Best of luck.
Are KT88 Gold Lions Amp Tubes dependable I run them (8) in a Cary CAD 120 amp. Sound great and no problems.
looking to purchase AT6006 tonearm lift or similar I had 2 of the AT6006's I liked them, but once they wear out, forget it. The next thing for me will be trying thr Q-UP. Less cost too.
LINN Majik vs Classik vs Wakonda vs Kairn 4drjohn, I'm getting a Linn Classik w/tuner tomorrow. $484.00 yeah, I got a decent price. This will be my 3rd one. I have an all tube system, but can't play it for several months a year due to lightening here in Florida. I got a pair of Katans las...
Cary V12r with balance unequal when in bias Bias the tubes @ 238mV the LED's just show that the tubes are ok. 1 or 2 degrees of a turn on the adjustments can make a hell of a difference. I have a meter that you can have if you need. I had a V12R and when you bias them right they are a hell ...
Whats the differen Between cary CAD 120s vs120sMK2 I have the 120's. The MKII is not necessary with the SLP98P because the preamp has enough gain in it. The only mod I've had done to the amp was getting hi-performance hexfreds and Cardas caps installed. Oh, the faceplate is painted differently on ...

Speaker cables: $3000 or $380. What do you get?? Jallen.. You know what you are doing. The more you spend, the less you get is right when it comes to wires. But... if one has the funds, why not experiment?
SLP 98P paired dynavector 20x2high cartridge? I have the CAD 120's and the SLP98P The DV 10x5 worked fine even though I think the build quality is garbage. You need 1.4mV for the cart to work. The DV 20x2 should have enough output to wirk fine without any mods. The 10x5 output is 2.5mV I thin...
Alternate Power Tubes for a Cary V12R If the vintage tubes (matched) are over 4K just sell the V12R and get the CAD120's or monoblocks.
Less than top line reel-to-reel worth it? You can find Teac X1000R and X2000R rebiult for reasonable prices (under $1,000.00) if you use the DBX noise reduction with a quality tape, you'll be surprised at how good the sound can be. Both have auto reverse. The X1000R has (softer) permaloy ...
Tube amp bias Stevecham is spot on. I spoke with Dennis Had before he retired and he said he likes to run the Cary CAD120's amp at 160mV (t - 10) the manual calls for 140mV (+ - 10) I run mine at 150mV and it works fine. I run 8 KT88's and 4 6sn7's. If your bia...
Sun light issues... possibly? Elizabeth is correct. You could hang a sheet of mylar with tape to block the sun and take it down whenever you want. Sunlight can damage lots of things like car interiors, speaker cones and (fade) cabinets. You could also tape mylar to or just use...
Sonus Faber Cremona's w/Cary CAD 120S MKII I have the CAD 120's with cardas caps. If you can get a Cary pre like the slp 98 the gain is enough, so that you will not need the MarkII upgrade. It is one hell of an amp. I'm using Gold Lions KT88's but the stock tubes sound really good too. Not... |
