What is "rich mans" DL-103?
The Zu 103R in my system is far from clinical. It is fantastic and on par with my wood body 103R. I might even like it better. Perhaps the potting has something to do with it. My wood bodied 103R is not potted.
What is "rich mans" DL-103?
Viridian, which SPU? GM w/elliptical stylus? New or old? I've been told so much contradictory information on the SPU cartridges that I don't know where to begin. Some say the new SPUs suck and others love them.Btw, I would go along with the sugges...
Ortofon SPU's outdated design?
Chris, what Grado cart? There are quite a few options in the Grado line at varying price points. Do you think the SPU is no better than a Denon 103/R?
What tonearm is recommended for the denon 103r
I have never heard a Triplanar so let's just get that out of the way before someone jumps all over my arse for speculating. I don't know where the silicone is used in the Triplanar but perhaps this helps compatibility with the Denons (besides it's...
MC phono stage without transformer?
Lew, I would agree. If one wants value, look at the full function preamps. I moved away from separates and bought one myself.
MC phono stage without transformer?
Getting back to Viper's inquiry: "so if transformer is no good, I should really be looking for an MC phono without the tranformer? Do these exist though?"Upon, examining direction that the thread has taken and the attention to various ultimate des...
MC phono stage without transformer?
Raul you took my commment out of context and removed the most important bit. If you concentrate on the complete comment and context, I believe you will find that I am mostly in agreement and I respect both your view and Lew's comment. Thanks.
MC phono stage without transformer?
Hi Raul, back at my level of sonic reproduction, I'm now switching between a DV XX-2/K&K step up and a Ortofon 2M Black thanks in part to your encouragement! Not sure if in my system it makes a difference but the 2M black is cheaper. Both cart...
MC phono stage without transformer?
lewm, no such inference should be made from my comments. big apologies! there are no hard and fast rules to defining a music lover. although, i would suggest that if your budget on equipment and music isn't in the stratosphere (90% of audiophiles)...
MC phono stage without transformer?
Another long discussion on the viability of step up transformers and what is the conclusion? Spend big bucks on a transformer less design if you want the best sound. What a surprise! Any transformerless carrots for people who don't want to spend $...
Feickert analogue protractor....Owners impressions
Easy to use. Pricey. Provides a very accurate way to set overhang based on the arm's pivot point. As Narrod mentioned, the Ken Willis protractor might be the way to go and save some dinero. And yes, if you're gonna be into vinyl, you simply have t...
Review: Cardersound Madison Speaker
Hi Pauly,Thanks for the review. I've been looking for higher sensitive speakers for quite some time but the size and frequency response has not led me to abandon my Devores. How is the frequency response (low and high) on these things? Do they nee...
Coupling capacitors give warm & sweet sound
My experience with Hovlands do not mesh with others here but I'm not disagreeing with those opinions. They took a long time to break in, however. I think they are a good choice to slightly modernize the sound of vintage equipment without going too...
is the Montille a real Shindo?
"can't get electric approval in North America"what is that all about?
Denon DL103R with Shindo Monbrison
At $2,100, that combo is certainly worth careful consideration but also worth considering is a $2,100 cart has a limited life whilst in the Denon/Step Up combo, most of your money is tied into the step up which will last a lifetime (in good care)....
