SET the best?
hey Atmasphere...interesting. i have heard the argument for frequency extension on the upper end. what do you mean by "artifacts"? are these artifacts measured or only heard? please forgive me as I am not an engineer. i'm looking at a square waves...
SET the best?
thanks Unsound...not petty at allI knew it was close...my 300 B SET measures flat below 27.5Hz at 4 or 5 watts (can't remember exactly)...amazing, eh?
SET the best?
HanaleiMike, take a visit over to the JE Labs website. Question...do you listen to acoustic instruments or a lot of electronic instruments? For the latter, some other kind of amp/speaker combo might be better. My 300B amp measures flat well below 3...
Getting back into digital. Please help.
Naim just announced a DAC today.I can see paralysis by analysis setting in. lol.

Musicslug, I have nothing against a HD solution but it would be a big change. I'm glad I started the thread because I never really considered.Do these companies have a house sound or is generalizing going to mislead? Thinking of Wadia, Esoteric, M...

Interesting comments, Lokie and Musicslug. I take it that neither of you would recommend a player/DAC that does not have a USB input? Upon first glance, it seems the SA-50 offers everything including just regular 'ol put a cd in a tray method :-)....

I have been thinking about the CDX2 Mlauner. Davt, have you tried a power supply with your CDX2 and if not, any issues with aggressive or mechanical sound?I like Naim but if I'm not going to build a Naim system, there are a lot of options out there.
Advice Needed on Mono Phono Preamps
You might try the JE Labs design: http://members.myactv.net/~je205d/mono.htm if your into DIY or could have a tech/builder build it. I'm listening to it and it is superb. I have heard the Sentec unit and it is superb. But that was with a Shindo am...
Shindo Auriges vs. Cary SLP98
But my main point still stands, how can one compare a ff preamp to a line stage? Especially for someone who obviously listens to vinyl? Makes no sense. A line stage should be cheaper than a FF preamp with a world class phono, no? yeah, that is LOL...
Shindo Auriges vs. Cary SLP98
"My present preamp is the Audio Valve Eklispe which is a great tube based linestage for a lot less money then the Shindo. "The Shindo Monbrison is a full function preamp with an amazing phono stage. There is no comparison in that area to your Chin...
Shoot-out Klyne 7xp3.5 vs IO Signature
NKJ, I had a Klyne 2.5 and thought it was fantastic. I eventually ended up with a custom tube pre with eq settings (simple JE Labs RCA circuit w/no feedback). At the same time I had the Klyne, I had two other solid state phonos: Dynavector P75 and ...
MONO cartridges
It would be nice to hear more about the Helikon. I have heard that Lyra does not believe that the microgroove (older) monos need a 1 mil conical or a larger elliptical stylus. Does anyone know the stylus profile and size of the Helikon mono? Is is...
Review: Sony SCD-XA5400ES CD Player
Aarif's comment was mildly funny. What really put me over the top in laughter was the comment about $15K products and hifi tuning fuses. :-) I suppose there was a point there, though. All humor aside, thanks for the review and break-in reports, Da...
Denon DL-103 -- Was it a mistake?
Vinyl Addict, i had a 2M Black with a Rega RB700 and I currently have a Zu 103R/Wood body 103R on a Thomas Schick tonearm. i'll take the latter. the 2m cartridge is great but did not present the music with the realistic palpability and sonic densi...
What is "rich mans" DL-103?
Theo, if you get a SPU, please come back to this thread or start a new thread and tell us your experiences. I have been thinking of a SPU but have only heard it in a very high end system (all Shindo - Garrard, Latour, Giscours, Cortese). Thanks, Paul
