Guitar playing audiophiles, Martin or Taylor? I completely agree with the above comments as to the personal nature of guitars. I've had some that were love at first play and others that i just couldn't make friends with..regardless of cost or brand. That said you owe it to your other half to ...
Are new tubes supposed to do this? i don't think the VTLs delay the B+. I've smoked a number of fuses due to power surges but the only problem i had with tubes was from a near lightning hit which took out the fueses and one tube. given the fact the tubes were going in the same loca...
Klipsch love them or hate them. I started out with a pair of late 70's Heresys and moved up to same vintage cornwalls. Best rock and roll system i ever had was based on them cornwalls. being a youngun back then i had them shoved in the corners like their big brothers the k horns...
Best $3000 - $4000 loudspeaker? used dunlavy athenas or cantata...from 2500 to 3500 from what i've seen. I though i stole my athenas at 4300, still do. those models are not really big, are easier to place than the dunlavy IVa's which are the closest in the running and some folks...
Amp recommendation for Dunlavy SC V another chime in for the VTLs. The arc gear (vt 100) is nice, less power, no tetrode/triode option and a little less air on top. The Pass aleph 2 is also nice but i just like the tubes better. tried all three and went with VTL (185's not 450's tho...
Where to use plants as diffusors? i've got them at the first order side wall points and have fairly well stuffed my big glass bay window full. helped a lot more than you'd expect. I have to add that most of the plats were at least half up the wall if not floor to cieling. i'd put ...
Guitar Amp Tubes looks like i read too fast, i ment to say the el-84s are not a swap for the 6l6's...i always thought that's what the peavy had as well...I should pay more attention i guess.Mrpapa why the adversion to 12au7 if you want to get into power tube satur...
Guitar Amp Tubes el-84s are not a swap in those amps so the mullards are not in the works for you for the power tubes and they really are not worth the money in an everynight gig amp. I tried NOS phillips in My Dr z and they sounded great but a bit pricey compared...
Revel Salons - Do they really sound like this? danlib1, remember live music comes through a PA system and reproduction of live music is what we strive to reproduce, add to that some PAs sound pretty darn good so don't take the comment so hard
Opinions on Revel Performa F32? ditto with the first two comments. I couldn't listen for very long without the harshness driving me away. Metal domes are not the ticket. Find some used Dunlavy Athenas for a few $K and you'll be happy for a long time.
Revel Salons - Do they really sound like this? i auditioned salons with a levison reference set up using all transparent reference xl cables and while it sounded good there is no way i would trade my dunlavy/vtl set up (wired with harmonic tech) for it other than to make a quick profit and the...
Pass X600 or VTL 450 Mono's for Magnepan jtinn, not sure where this loose a tube replace a resister thing has come form...i've heard it a couple of times. A near lightning strike wook out 2 tubes and the B+ fuses in my 185's....swapped em out and kept on ticking. I have about 5 yrs in th...
Starter Turntable i'm going to chime in on the keep it simple side to start with. My analog system consists of a CJ walker table with a linn basic arm..can't even remember which linn cart. i'm using an old B&O reciever for phono pre and a tuner. i have an ACR C...
Pass x-350 and Dunlavy SC-IVa - what speaker cable the dunlavey's can indeed get bright at times, set up is the key and a little tweaking of toe in can work wonders. Transparent...yuuuck. my 2 cents only but while their midrange is glorious the top end gets crucified and the openness the dunlavys ...
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy? i had a marantz 2275 as a kid and sold it to my brother, he still has it. it don't keep up with my $8k worth of seperates but it still sounds mighty good and it is a loud bugger. i think the money involved in it back in the 70's was still sub $200... |
