Sutherland PhD Issues Congrats! I wonder if that's often a problem with the Emotion and Phd.
cartridge output level What I'm getting from all the above is that you SHOULD have plenty of gain/volume at 12 o'clock. There's an error somewhere. Call Hovland and make sure your Colibri is actually not a VERY low output version.
Recommended first turntable? makes sense to me. I can only guess where you're coming from 'till you spell it out. Just remember, a $400 table/arm with a $40 cartridge will give you better sound than a $300 table with a $140 cartridge, assuming the components are well chosen. ...
Recommended first turntable? "...take your time and save up for decent stuff don't throw money away just to get something for the time being."I second that motion, but I wouldn't assume you have to go to a TNT or any other VPI. Lot's o fish in the sea. Given your disposition,...
Cartridge Break-in at High VTF? Viridian, that actually does make sense in terms of vertical suspension.
Recommended first turntable? Good overview, Jc2000. I would add that even a brand new record benefits from a serious record cleaning. Also, if you're using running water, which is a good minimal measure, final rinse with reverse osmosis filtered water if you have it. It's wor...
Sutherland PhD Issues God forbid you should ask directions. How 'bout asking Acoustic Sounds, their distributor? Sounds like a defect.
Cartridge Break-in at High VTF? I usually go little high but not as high as your suggesting. If the range is, say 1.8 - 2.2, with 2 being optimal, go for 2.2 at first, bringing down to 2.1 after 50 hours or so, then down to 2 after about 100 hours. Then revisit VTA and go by ear.
Recommended first turntable? Another thought: You are much better off putting virtually all your budget into the table/arm and getting the cheapest possible stop gap cartridge such as the cheapest Grado with the assumption of upgrading as funds allow. The quality priority seq...
Recommended first turntable? One way to integrate some of the above sugestions is to consider waiting and saving up a bit more so you can stretch upwards on your budget. You'll be happier in the long run. One advantage to the Rega is that set up couldn't be simpler. If you're...
Experience with Raul's Essential 3150 Raul, obviously totally hypothetical. In other words, if I were to compare your preamp to some others, and for reasons of personal taste I prefered another preamp, I would still have no problem with you prefering yours.
New Maplenoll Ariadne owner needing advice I have, over time, re-aligned my manifold several times when I have worked on the table, but only for asthetic reasons. Again, if you use the alignment pin to anchor the right end of the overhang guide, then what you're saying is correct. I am jus...
New Maplenoll Ariadne owner needing advice The operative here is how you use the overhang adjustment guide. If you use it the way I do, only in relation to the arm traverse and spindle, the issue you're talking about becomes irrelevent, in that the only thing that matters is whether the ca...
New Maplenoll Ariadne owner needing advice I believe I got you the first time but it still doesn't follow for me. If you don't use the pin to lock in the position of the overhang adjustment guide, anchoring the guide only at the platter spindle, overhang remains your only adjustment that e...
