Mark Levinson 523 preamp with McIntosh power amp?
I used that combo once, was a great match.
Wanting to get back into the hobby and want to start with the speakers.
Open Baffle Speakers are a must listen or Quad Electrostatic speakers 57's or 63's.
Removing spikes... Now my speakers sing
It depends on the speakers, I liked them on Dynaudio confidence, on my ESL 63's a big no go, just made things brighter, same for my OB speakers, yes they sound cleaner, but you can lose the meat and dynamics in the midrange, while when spiking the...
What amp to match with Spatial Audio M3 Sapphire open back speakers
Honestly. Until you get the speakers in your own room should you even start to consider what the best amp might be? Not a living soul could tell you that. The M3 Sapphires are very efficient so really you need 50-60 watts, even less with tubes in ...
Quad ESL service, Electrostatic Solutions or Quads Unlimited ?
Electrostatic Solutions.
Turned Off My Subwoofer ... And My Speakers Sound Great
Depends on how you set up your sub. When your speakers sound better that tells you that your sub setup was wrong. If your sub impacts the mid-range then your setup is wrong. Either the sub is poorly designed or your settings we're way off.
Luxman d-08u vs berkeley reference 2 dac
Not to where it be cost-effective,  Problem with the D-08 though is how many hours on it and the cost to repair it. You be at the mercy of the seller and if not the 1st owner than watch they not selling it for more than they may have paid for it.1...
Luxman d-08u vs berkeley reference 2 dac
What made the Luxman D-08U that much better than the older D-08. The USB was added, updates to the DAC, but having heard both side by side, if I blinded folded you and switch back and forth a few times you be hard pressed, when you get to this lev...
Quad ESL 57 with subwoofer
All you need are,8-10" subs, a pair is ideal. Drive them from your main amp using the high level inputs, so not run cables from your preamp, set the crossover at 40Hz, adjusting the volume to blend, use a piano and a vocal recordings, when either ...
Electrostatic Speakers
The newer Quads are still basically an ESL 63 with better cabinets and looks. My ESL 63’s were purchased from Electrostatic Solutions and are 7 years old now. Totally rebuilt with upgraded power supplies that took this speaker to another level, th...

In the middle of a pandemic, Stereophile reviews ~ $30K equipment
The reality of manufacturing high-end gear. Who’s able to buy and who cannot, if the buyers are the upper 10% with that kind of disposable income that they will build for. In this great hobby early day a normal Joe could afford to but gear, now if...
Open Baffle vs Box
Quad speakers are open baffle in design, you have a front wave and the back wave is just as strong to the point you could flip the speaker around and you would have the same output. No woofers, no midrange, no tweeters, yet the speakers reproduce ...
Old vs. new
Bop To You Drop was the dawn of digital. 40 years ago, I guess vinyl recordings sounded better between 1910 and 1950. So technology improved, that is always the case. I love it when CD’s are put down and they talking about the sound of CD’s at the...
Which is the most important part of a stereo system?
Your room, room, and more room impact the sound more than you know. A system is a whole, they work together, power cords impact gear more than any other cable, the wrong power cords and can make a good piece of gear sound like crap. So don’t look ...
