What settings for a Marantz SA-10?
I’ve owned a mega priced units and this newer Marantz. The SA-10S1 is a steal for the price and sound reproduction. My last player was the older Esoteric K-01, the Marantz was in no way below it, except for massive dynamics that really threw the m...
Marantz SA-10 Vs Esoteric K-05Xs
I owned the K-01 a wonderful CD player, had massive attack and dynamics that put vinyl to shame. Loved it. Got ill so I sold the K-01, and the only player I considered was the Marantz SA-10S1. I’ve not looked back with regret. The K-01 still has m...
Class D
Class D is the future and continues to improve as solid-state did and tubes over time did. My next amp will be class D of some sort, no longer going to want to lift my 100 lb McIntosh amp which is superb. It will be sold at local pickup only at a ...
PS Perfect wave power cord
I wanted to add my experience. You can see in my 1st post that I was not high on the PS Audio AC-12. I never sold them, so 2 weeks ago I pulled them out and put them back where I had tried them before and let the system play with the amp off for a...
High end Class D amps?
Class D is the future. Boomers stop bashing it, its a maturing product now. PS Stellar 1200 is sweet, Red Cherry, Merrill at a lot more money would give any amp made today regardless of cost a run. Now a pure tube system and I mean pure tube, with...
Where can Open Baffle speakers be placed
All speakers work different in different rooms. My sapphires M3’s work very well 32” from the front wall in my room out further the bass is not as good, now I have ASR panels and bass traps in each corner of the front wall along with heavy curtain...
Should I use Speaker Spike / Isolation Base or Something?
It all depends on the floor and the speakers. There is a setup man who wrote a great article on why he never uses spikes and why. I had Quad speakers and adding spikes turned them into unlistenable, my current open baffle speakers sound soooo much...
PS Audio BHK lacking..
Check and make sure the amp you are using input impedance is a good match for the PS Audio preamp. If that is not a good match you will find the bass is rolled off big time.
Your analysis of Analysis plus spk.cable
AP cables were not designed as tone controls. Many cables color the sound from forwarding highs and upper midrange to forward and heavy bottom end with little pace. Oval 9 and the rest of the line are even from top to bottom, thus you hear your ge...
Mark Levinson 523 preamp with McIntosh power amp?
I used that combo once, was a great match.
Wanting to get back into the hobby and want to start with the speakers.
Open Baffle Speakers are a must listen or Quad Electrostatic speakers 57's or 63's.
Removing spikes... Now my speakers sing
It depends on the speakers, I liked them on Dynaudio confidence, on my ESL 63's a big no go, just made things brighter, same for my OB speakers, yes they sound cleaner, but you can lose the meat and dynamics in the midrange, while when spiking the...
What amp to match with Spatial Audio M3 Sapphire open back speakers
Honestly. Until you get the speakers in your own room should you even start to consider what the best amp might be? Not a living soul could tell you that. The M3 Sapphires are very efficient so really you need 50-60 watts, even less with tubes in ...
Quad ESL service, Electrostatic Solutions or Quads Unlimited ?
Electrostatic Solutions.
Turned Off My Subwoofer ... And My Speakers Sound Great
Depends on how you set up your sub. When your speakers sound better that tells you that your sub setup was wrong. If your sub impacts the mid-range then your setup is wrong. Either the sub is poorly designed or your settings we're way off.
