Listening for tube degradation
This is a very informative & great thread as Karelfd mentioned above. I also have to agree with Swampwalker that just because a tube exhibits microphonics does not indicate the tube is worn out. I have purchased brand new tubes that are microp...
What is the best place to buy tubes?
NOS audio vacuum tubes: www.tejastubes.com (save $)
Stereophile Article - Holt telling it like it is.
Are some of us the last to find out that audio as a hobby is dying? If so there is going to be alot of snobby audiophiles that will be sucked into that void as well. That will leave music lovers like myself to continue business as usual, enjoying ...
Opinions on Aragon 4004MKII?
Chadnliz, I own both the Aragon 4004 MK II and the 2004 MK II. I loaned the 4004 to a friend who now wants to buy it and kept the 2004 because I don't need the power the 4004 offers. My speakers are horn loaded, are rated at 110db so the potent 10...
Opinions on Aragon 4004MKII?
Excellent sounding amp, very tough or near impossible to beat at its price point!
What happened to Aragon, Camelot?
Aragon is very good gear and have enjoyed both the 4004 MkII & 2004 MKII, it just sounds right to me. Pair either one of these amps with a tube preamp & your in for a treat. Aragon preamps are also very good.
Class-D amps - a different re view
Sirspeedy, it is excellent that we have all agreed that a reviewers conclusions are a matter of opinion but can point one in a certain direction resulting in either a positive or negative experience. Although most of us read reviews from time to t...
Class-D amps - a different re view
Stehno, that is what I hoped to convey in my post which is why you and I are actually in full agreement.
Class-D amps - a different re view
Sirspeedy, I would like to offer some thoughts on why a HiFi reviewer may have the ability to be more accurate on his conclusions on any given product over that of the average audiophile. It isn't that the reviewer's hearing is more acute than the ...
Class-D amps - a different re view
Muralman1, that is a good point that experimentation & patience are important to get the best results from Class D amps. I know that some class D amps are transparent as hell but what I didn't like is that some designs lacked body, that weight...
Class-D amps - a different re view
Martin Colloms is a highly regarded & respected reviewer. I agree with his asessment that Class D amps don't quite measure up to audiophile use but they are fun toys. I've tried a few of the above mentioned/reviewed Class D amps and have sold ...
How does one get off the merry-go-round?
Blackwillard, I think it is true that 99% of the world don't care about this hobby. But approximately the remaining 1% that do care are audiophiles (audiophiles represent a small segement of society). I would also agree there are far more importan...
Conrad Johnson PV11...Extreme sibilance, harsh sou
I have owned the CJ PV11 & two of the things that struck me the most was the lack of bass but on the other hand it was a very revealing preamp. I think Audiophile1's comment on the lack of bass can make higher frequencies more prominent should...
Please tell me.
Drum75, now you have really crossed the line--------- but since your a musician you are forgiven, (just a little humor here). There is a new affordable preamp offered by Halo (Parasound) that has defeatable tone controls (they are truly out of the...
Please tell me.
Drum75, like yourself, when listening to music I don't have audiophiles sitting in my living room evaluating my system each time I fire it up, only on rare occasions. So it really comes down to pleasing yourself. I'm not positive but it seems that...
