Who needs a Preamp??
There are three camps here concerning the use of preamps. The active, passive, and the no-preamp crowd. Who's right? There are no right or wrong answers here, strictly based on personal preferences, the type of gear involved and the speakers you a...
Please Make Audiogon Cool
Lynnj, I agree and don't think that any stereo system is complete without a turntable!boxer12, since you already have the last three attributes: humble, honest, and good looking you sure don't need to worry about being cool. For myself I'm just re...
Please Make Audiogon Cool
Noble100, darn it, its not only that we are worried about the humans extinction but rather how many that do remain are indeed really human.  Over and out.
Considering simplifying my system... talk me down (or whatever)
Don't do it, most people that simplify are saying they are giving up on this hobby. You will in the end join the ranks of people that let go of a system that may have taken years to assemble and that was a source of great pleasure to be replaced w...
Is it safe to buy from Audiogon sellers?
I've sold and purchased for many years on audiogon and for the most part it has been a total success. Out of all them fun and interesting transactions there were a few that did not go very well and those few involved an item that needed repair but...
Please Make Audiogon Cool
Clearly most audiophiles are very cool people and have a lot of interesting things to say, especially if you call this a lifestyle. In addition some people may think that we are obsessed, rude and overbearing at times and that certainly comes out ...
You've tried other amps and ended with Pass, please discuss
No sense in arguing, Pass Labs has set a benchmark on build quality and sound quality for solid state amps. Short signal path, high quality parts and excellent engineering makes for a superb listening experience. Properly set up they will be tough...
I went from Class D to Luxman A/AB - And most of what you think is wrong
A few years ago I did a local sale on a Conrad Johnson tube preamp which was connected to a Class D amp. When the buyer came over for a listen his first question was, what kind of amp is that? He then went on to point out how impressive the two so...
Selling my dads top of the line system
I'm going to post my initial reaction. Don't sell your dads stereo, if he was a good dad then keep it to remember him by. Set it up in extra room and when you find the time to listen to it and remember the good times. When my father passed away I ...
Parasound service problems
pbnaudio, yes I thought about ordering them from an electronic parts store but I wanted the original replacement caps only because they are packed so closely to each other and they would have to be of the same physical size. You already know that ...
Parasound service problems
wafwarrier, I called parasound concerning leaking caps on the input board of an older HCA-2200 and I gave the values and locations to get replacements. I called a couple of times to only not get any call back calls or answers to their availability.
Parasound service problems
Forget it, you are not going to get any where with Parasound. I tried to get parts for an HCA-2200 over the phone and got the run around. They really need to step up their game if they want to remain competitive and maintain customer loyalty.
Kudos to Dan Wright of Modwright
Well thank you islandmandan, great minds do think alike!
Ahhh--Problem solved. Adding a REL sub-bass unit...
You know it really depends on your main speakers whether or not they would benefit from a subwoofer.  As big as my main horn speakers are, they never have produced just enough bass to satisfy me even with more powerful amps,. So a subwoofer was ad...
Ahhh--Problem solved. Adding a REL sub-bass unit...
Ahh you are correct and Paul McGowan recommends using the subs high level inputs ( speakers wires in and out) of the sub so it takes on the same characteristics as your other speakers and provides a more seamless sound.
