Led Zeppelin Mothership
Fair enough...but if used judiciously... compression is not necessarily a bad thing...but this is highly subjective...and focused on Mothership...which is the orig post...a decent sounding best of.
B&W 603 S3 verses DM 640
I would lean towards the 603...the 640 had some issues regarding blown tweeters...and Stereophile raved about the 603...just my bias...I don't think B&w becomes truly magical until ones hears a model with an exposed tweeter on top...best of lu...
Led Zeppelin Mothership
Use your ears...who cares if a data base claims this or that...fwiw...rock is recorded with compression...so those who seek out early CD/pressings of classic rock hoping to get a compression free recording ate misled...its similar to running vocal...
The best material for a platform for floorstander
I wouldn't sweat it as long as speakers are elevated...I'm sure others are going to mention Italian marble, spikes made from rhino horn, and 6ft bamboo stilts... Don't bite
Led Zeppelin Mothership
Let's be clear...the original lps outside of PG were never that good....I and IV being extremely muddy...I think mothership and the even newer remasters are a quantum leap...I also own some of the classic reissues that outside of being a bit bass ...
Bookshelf Speakers in Built-in Bookcase
IMHO, I wouldn't suggest meda funding on new mains...the end result is going to be compromised due to the set up and the speakers will never reach their potential (regardless of price).I would concentrate on what you can control: sub placement and...
Need Help Picking Out Bookshelf Speakers
I wouldn't throw a lot of money due to space limitations compromising sound... I personally would go with a wall mount approach and incorporate the sub...a littleore flexibility and speakers are solely designed for this application
Most enjoyable speaker you heard under $800??
Sbrownnw...no and no.
Most enjoyable speaker you heard under $800??
Not much at that level has blown me away...in the used market Revel M20s, Sonus Faber Concertinos, etc....music direct has some Focal closeouts
Magnepan MMG Speakers?
For your musical tastes...I would go with a speaker with a better low end...mmgs simply don't have the bass needed for your desired tastes...very good with vocals, acoustic guitars, strings, etc...they also are fairly unforgiving of the recordings...
Bookshelf Speakers with the decent bass
With speakers as good as Focal...I would at least try a sub...many different options and price points...
Music for testing equipment speakers, headphones..
Test discs are are a great "shock and awe" tool used by dealers.. However...at the end of the day...one has to listen to real music...strange that a lot of test discs I have encountered don't contain vocals
Bookshelf speakers for $500ish
Agreed...doubling your budget to 1k for speakers will not fix room issues...although better speakers could be placed in a different environment down the road...still like the Focal 806 @ music direct $599...heard this at a dealer against some stif...
Rolling Stones Tour 2015
Possibly...but both bands were somewhat one dimensional in their infancy...no different than most garage bands of today...mostly covers, etc...however the Beatles gradually became more sophisticated in the studio...and essentially abandoned live p...
Rolling Stones Tour 2015
Have to agree with earlier post...live Stones does reveal the limitations of Jagger as a vocalist...however his performance does make up.for some or all depending on the night....this is not Pavarotti! Stones would wipe the floor with the Beatles ...
