Quad...one of my grills became damaged...and they sent me a replacement free of charge...
Time coherence - how important and what speakers?
I believe SPicas used a 1st order/4th order x-over configuration in their tc-50...with the 4th order on the mid-bass driver...designer John B. claimed through computer simulation tests that the 4th order had virtually no phase anomalies...I do kno...

Garbage in - Garbage out?
With a new hi-rez format being the real improvement in digital sound...I wouldnt recommend blowing your wad on a conventional "redbook" player at the moment(why pigeon hole yourself...flexibility is the key in my book)...by far the cheapest compon...
CD Players that deliver outstanding vocals
A quality recording in my estimation is equal or more important than the CD player itself...I have an el cheapo Sony SACD...and with a stellar recording...vocals are "spooky real"...
Small floorstander recommendations
There is a pair of Thiel .5s for $650 on this site...maybe a tad bass shy...but for musical sound..hard to beat at that price....
High value floorstanders around $1k used
Used Thiel .5s for $650 on this site...phase correct design, great imaging, a little lean on bass and a little power hungry...but they are front ported so they would work near walls... a great little 2-way floorstander....
Old Classic Receivers: A Mistake to Buy?
I wouldnt say a mistake..but there is always a risk going with something used and old...regardless of build quality and how it performed in its heyday...I would say for less headaches, better sound, and a better value...go with a more modern inter...
The best amp or improvement for Dahlquist DQ-10's
I was in the same boat not too long ago...but found the dqs bass slow, tubby, and ill-defined...and even with adequate power...we are still talkin about 30 yr old Advent paper drivers here...for a speaker that still has that very "open" midrange b...
Upgrading - - recommendations monitor speaker?
I agree with got2buzz...I own the Quad 12Ls as well...and they are a remarkable bargain considering sound and build quality...they are however very revealing with electronics and recordings...you will hear everything..."warts" and all...but on a s...
Magnepan 12s
The small Maggie 12s are really the "hidden jewel" in the MAG line up...the bigger 1.6s receive most of the acclaim...but the 12s are no slouches either...they dont have the soundstage, bass, or overall "wow" factor the 1.6s do...but they are a ve...
speaker sensitivity dividing lines
Sean...you obviously know more about this than I do...over the years I have had 4,6, and 8ohm monitor speakers with varying sensitivity....all being powered by a 40 or 60w intergrated amp that can handle these more "difficult" loads...and even at ...
Upgrading - - recommendations monitor speaker?
600-800$ will get you a pair of fine monitors...I would suggest Spendors,Epos,Quad L series,Castle,etc...I tend to like BRit monitors...which have that open, airy midrange quality...maybe a little lean on bass...but you are planning on adding a su...
speaker sensitivity dividing lines
Yes these specs can be useful when pairing componets...but the bottom line...speaker sensitivity has little bearing on how a speaker SOUNDS....it does have some relation on how a speaker will BEHAVE with sufficient or insufficient power and at cer...
High efficiency speakers vs Low, pros and cons
I wouldnt worry too much about it...find a speaker u like...then mate with appropiate power...as much as people want to make it...this is not rocket science....I also agree there are no real advantages to hi-efficiency designs other than low power...
