QUAD L12 OR TANNOY R2 ?
I can vouche for the QUads...they have a huge sweetspot, a very wide soundstage, and incredible imaging stability...they have received alot of attention...and for good reason...at their price point and even beyond...they are the monitors to beat.....
Bi-wiring...tell me more
Some good responses here...and Stehno nailed it...it really is system dependent vs speaker dependent...that being said...I tend to side with Dynaudio...one of the few companies that doesnt believe in the so called "benefits" of bi-wiring...they do...
I need some clarity
Lawbadman...if your dorm room was like mine...Mags would be a "tight fit"...as others have stated...they are very room sensitive and not "space savers"...if you plan on moving off campus...I would keep em as opposed to taking a hit on the used mar...

Quad 11L vs. Reynaud Twins
As a former spica owner...and now a Quad 12L owner...I would be hard pressed to find two different speakers...the SPicas imaging and soundstage are impressive...but it really comes down to speed, dynamics, detail, and transparency...across the boa...

Opinions on the new Meadowlark Kestrel '2'
also...first order networks...such as Meadowlark and Vandersteen...are not designed for near field applications...the drivers overlap ...so a recommended distance of 6-8ft is optimal...
any new Quad 11/12L owners?
The 12 has much more bass impact due to a larger driver/ larger cabinet and is more dynamic... and offers a wider soundstage...they both are extremely accurate and musical...if your room is very small go 11L...if not ...go 12L...
Can speakers be both "big" and "accurate" ?
Vandersteens are known "huge spacious sound" and time/phase accuracy...at your price range the Vandy 3a will fill your room with sound...and bass to 30hz...not designed for loud party rock...but most hi end speakers arent...
