The Hardest Naturally Occurring Substance on Earth
@millercarbon Your post certainly progresses the context of this conversation.  NOT, again.
The Hardest Naturally Occurring Substance on Earth
Do we need some marriage counseling here? If we get to the Jane Curtin-Chevy Chase banter, then I am definitely calling for a time out!  :)So, the only way to check to see if one's stylus is at or nearing the end of life is to put in under a scope...

@uberwaltz   Check out the tread about "Two Turntables. Why?"  In that thread there are many folks who decide which turntable to play the LP on based on the condition of the LP.  Poorer quality LPs are played on more affordable turntables and cart...
Expanding questions about tubes in a preamp
It has been argued to me that higher end audio component companies are making upfront decisions on the type and quality of the tubes in use.  So, if you have a high end product line, one should expect that the high end line is using the top qualit...
1st SACD Purchase
I'm only going through two channel stereo
1st SACD Purchase
@cleeds  What I was attempting to say is that it will play any format on the round disc we call a CD.  Whether it is Blu-ray, DVD, SACD, CD-R,  and DVD-Audio, it is still a round disc with a hole in the middle.  So, no, I am not confused.  I know ...
1st SACD Purchase
@kren0006  Yes, great idea that I intend to follow-thru on.  I have done A-B-C-D comparisons with LPs from High School, Redbook CDs from early days, remastered 45rpm/200gr vinyl, and digital streaming from Tidal.  Now I can add SACD into the mix. ...
1st SACD Purchase
@kren0006  I'm a McIntosh person.  I purchased the MVP 901, which is a multi-function transport that plays audio & video discs.  All kinds of formats, as long as they come on a compact disc format.  The MVP 901 flows into my McIntosh 2600 PreA...
1st SACD Purchase
@petg60   What does it mean when you note that it is a "hybrid"?
Two Turntables? Why
Thanks for all the contributions.   @tom6897 Why do I ask?  I have what I consider a good moving coil turntable & cartridge.  Together they are over &10K.  I know, I know, price isn't everything, but it sounds sweet to me.  But I am going...
Cool it!
Fans & Cooling = Noise.  Not a good idea.  As long as their is space around the amp, all is good.  My tubes put out some heat, but the manufacturer already knew that when they created the design.
What was your most disappointing album purchase?
WHAT, nobody mentions the first couple of John & Yoko solo recordings? If it wasn't Lennon, those would have never been recorded or released.  Totally unlistenable, even for nostalgia sake.  I keep thinking my mint copies are going to be worth...
How Do You Live The Audiophile Life
Every time I visit another city I find the high end audio stores and go for a visit.  Kick their tires and get a line on why they promote the products they promote.  I find it very helpful
Why don’t tube amps sound like tubes anymore?
None of my McIntosh Tube components sound at all like Solid State.  I think it entirely depends on the manufacturer of the products in question.  I think some Amps have tubes for the look, not the sound
