New Schroeder linear tonearm, any thoughts? The first video is fascinating. The second one does not really give a sense of what is happening.I would think that for it to have truly linear (tangental) movement, the stylus must follow a straight line moving along the exact radius of the LP, t...
Magico S5 vs Tannoy Westminster Royal SE Hello Jim,I had always been under the impression that Tannoy, like Audio Note, Spendor and Harbeth, designs its cabinets to resonate, somewhat like instruments. Now that you ask for a reference, however, I can not find any material that supports t...
Survey:What Speakers Do You Want To Demo in Store? Great question. Perhaps there are some potential dealers reading this. Around Boston, it's hard to hear Evolution Acoustics, Tannoy, Avant Guarde, and Eggleston. Those would be very welcome. The problem is that there are just so many brands and so...
Magico S5 vs Tannoy Westminster Royal SE I'm still waiting for Kiddmann to explain his comment (on 10/22) about why he thinks Magico has "higher distortion". It's just interesting to me because that is a view/opinion that I don't hear very often. Magicos, whether you like them or not, ar...
VPI Direct Drive Turntable It will be interesting to hear how this compares to other expensive DD tables: a reconditioned SP10 Mk3 and the Dobbin's "The Beat."
VPI Direct Drive Turntable It feels good to smile. Thanks Dreadhead.
Turntable placement Advise. You will not be watching/listening to HT explosions while also spinning LPs, will you? In other words, you will never have the center channel speaker on while using your turntable. If that is the case, I would not worry too much. Why not just try ...
Going from a Gyrodec to a SME 10 Tketcham, I just thought of something. A rather fine point, but it may make a difference to the discussion. My 309 was modified and included with my SME Model 10A turntable package. I was under the impression that this was simply a 309 painted wit...
Going from a Gyrodec to a SME 10 Tkecham, Perhaps I was not clear enough in my previous post. The VTA height adjustment screw has been an integral part of each the three SME arms I have owned, the 309, the V and the V-12. The damping trough was not included with the 309 but it is...
Going from a Gyrodec to a SME 10 The SME 309 arm that came with my Model 10A did not have a damping trough, but it did have the VTA setting screw. I once removed the damping trough on my SME V arm for cleaning purposes, and the VTA setting screw was not a part of that assembly. I...
VPI Direct Drive Turntable It's kind of fun to watch both the VPI tour video by Fremer on AnalogPlanet and the factory tour of SME Ltd., parts 1-3, on YouTube. I wish there were more of these factory tour videos. They are pretty informative.
VPI Direct Drive Turntable There are a few good alternatives for $30K. Time will tell how this one performs relative to the competition. The 3D arm has now been out a while. Are there any reviews or have people compared it to other references? I saw a recent video from Frem...
Used turntable market I sold my SME Model 10 in less than two weeks. It was shipped in the original packaging and arrived safely and functions flawlessly according to the buyer. I think much depends on the quality of the table and shipping container. If there is any qu...
New Pass Labs 250.8 - Jan 2014 Guess it's time to upgrade again. If indeed the technology from the XS line is trickling down for a 20% price increase and 50% performance gain, it could be a pretty good value. Time and listening will tell.
Phono Preamp - 2k budget? I'd consider a used Pass Labs Xono. It is very versatile with a lot of gain and many loading options and it has the dynamics and liveliness you seek. I also find it quite transparent. |
