Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Please don't mislead people by telling them you hear audible differences, it's just snake oil. I'm not even going to entertain an arguement here, there is no way any of you could pass a blind listening test. If it makes you feel better go ahead an...
Audio Physics ...Bright or forward?
There is no rule that says you are obligated to buy since he worked hard on the sale. If you had them in your home twice and still aren't sure they are right for you, they probably aren't. Doesn't your dealer carry other brands? Try something w/ a...
How Old is Old when considering an Amp? Krell, Bry
Class A amps should probably be serviced every 15-20 years depending upon use. AB amps aren't as stressed and can probably go 20-30 years without any noticeable impact. Since the Krell is near that 15 year mark you should keep that in mind when ne...
Decent reciever on a budget?
Of the lot you mentioned I really liked the Arcam AVR100. It has a nice sound, I hate using this term, but it's the most musical reciever I've heard. It was demo'ed with some very expensive speakers and wasn't embarassed at all.
Burned out hi fi salesman
How many 22 y/o college students purchase $3300 amps? I think the salesman was being a salesman. I suppose if a Posrche dealer didn't want to take you on a test drive it was because he's not into cars. I hate to say it but at 22 unless you roll up...
Gon bonkers with def tech...help..
How do they sound to you? That's really all that matters. Def Tech gets the cheesburger rep b/c they offer so much for their price. When you look at the number of drivers, then factor in that many models come with built in subs you get a great bar...
Amp Question Please advise
I'm not sure about the Paradigm 40's but when I went from 140 watts to 300 watts (into 4ohms) with my dynaudio 1.8s, I noticed that I had real bass at lower levels, and didn't need to be cranked as much to get a coherent soundstage. I'd guess arou...
Burned out hi fi salesman
I agree whole heartedly with that statement. I've listened to alot of gear, and 5% is about the degree of difference I've seen. Maybe a bit more when you put something like an electrostat next to a woofer/tweeter type speaker. But once a certain l...
Parasound HCA-3500 to Proceed HPA-2?
I don't think the Proceed will help tame the Parasound's harshness if that is your goal. You'll get better results with tubes and room treatments. In the end it might be easier to get a speaker with a soft dome tweeter.
CJ pre Noise Floor
If it makes you feel better, I hear the same type of hiss about 1 ft away from my SS pre when I turn the volume up enough. From my listening position it's inaudble, but I know it's there. I think it might be a characteristic of all systems. The on...
Why receivers aren't worth the "competetive price"
Yes, take a something like polk speakers and perhaps a sony reciever against something expensive like Levinson/Wilson gear, set at equal levels then take measurements, the graffs won't differ by much more then 5% in the same room playing the same ...
Why receivers aren't worth the "competetive price"
You'd be shocked how many people you could fool by sticking store brand ice cream in a Haagan-Daz container. The fact is you're still getting milk, cream and sugar, and the idea that they are eating a premium ice cream will be enough to convince t...
Dynaudio Focus?
Being that alot of people like the older contour series better then the new one (myself inluded) I'd hold off on statements like XX is better then YY because it has some new transducers. Speaker manufacturers have to make 'upgrades' to keep sellin...
Mini Monitors - Dynaudio and JM Labs
I think everyone can agree that all these speakers sound great and are past the point of diminishing marginal returns, where that extra 5k will get a marked improvement in sound. I bet if you gathered them all together and played a variety of musi...
Alternative to Dynaudio 1.3SE
Mac's have such great resale value, I'd look to sell that before the 1.3se. As for the Sim, the bass is the opposite of Mac, it just seems fast and tight as opposed to slow and full, it's hard to explain unless you've heard both brands before. Eve...
