Review: Harman Kardon T-60 Turntable
Sold mine a few years ago after it sat for a decade on my shelf. Hey, maybe you wound up with mine!
Burned out hi fi salesman
5% sounds like a lot to me. More like .5%. But that's the difference audiophiles pay the most for. I agree: the sales person was not a believer so he should not be in the business of proselytizing.
Why do you never near anything about Spectral
Only experience with Spectral was a brief audition of Wilson speakers (the ones below Watt/Puppy, whatever they are called) at a dealer. The gentlemen there played some blues (SACD) and I had to ask who was that guy singing. Answer: Muddy Waters. ...
Why are CDs so hard to open?
To give an edge to LP sales.
Reaplce Thiel 3.6's Tweeter
I don't think you can do better than what Jim Thiel has come up with.
Is Martin Logan goin to Big Box stores?
That would be the kiss of death. Have you seen what the merger with Chrysler did to Mercedes? Have you seen the two horrible new models: one looks like a van, the other like a Mazda 3? I thought people realized that cheapening the brand is what, i...
Do tube dampers improve sound?
I would be lying if I told you that I can hear any difference, but like chicken soup, it can't oit! I have Herb's on my preamp and Audio Research rings on my phono section. Since tubes are microphonic to some extent, it does make some kind of sens...
whats your idea of loud music.
I agree, and years ago posted something here on realistic sound levels. My contention was based on a statement by a top-notch record producer (I think that's what he was, can’t remember his name) who said that for every recording there is only one...
what's wrong Arcam FMJ cd33?
I got the CD 23 from a local dealer for a trial period of about three days a few years ago and was immediately taken by its sound. What you are saying is true for any component: you have to hear it with your system, in your room and with your musi...
Krell Intergrateds..how come nobody likes em?
Heard one at a dealer when I auditioned speakers: smooth as silk, punchy in the lows and with an extended high frequency range that some could mistake for harshness at the extreme but that is merely extended highs that show cymbals and triangles i...
What components would you take to a desert island?
None, I would have survival on my mind and that's about it! In a pinch, I reckon everything would have to be battery operated: not much choice there I would say!
suggestions on speakers for 5.1 setup $2500 range
I second the Paradigms: lots of great speaker for not much money. Keep them all the same for SACD reproduction or, at least, if you use a speaker made for uses as a centre, get a big one from the same manufacturer.
Can a scratched record...
No, never, no way and that's the beauty of LPs! Handling them keeps you on edge which makes the music better until such time as you get anxious because you know the mad dash to the tt is near to save that high priced stylus and irreplaceable recor...
Do people don't care or don't know?
Is his heart touched at anything less than 70K?
SACD vs xrcd
Seems you have satisfied yourself based on a sample of one. Par for the course in audiophiledom, I guess. Too bad, some very fine recordings are to be found on XRCD. Why the blanket criticism of JVC?
