SET for 88 dB 4 ohm loadspeaker
88db's not very efficient. Are you married to the SET topology? Have you considered triode tubes wired in PP configuration or pentode tubes wired triode mode? This might be an acceptable compromise for you if your speakers are a constraint.
Getting into Vinyl...
Ooops. Guess I provided the "wrong" advice.
Buying HiFi at credit, anyone?
It's just as easy to rationalize not using them.
Getting into Vinyl...
"A[sic] this point I think I am leaning towards the Black Cube with the larger power supply, I will start there and move ahead with the table, or vice versa. Seems like the phono is the more important piece..."How do you come to the conclusion tha...
Getting into Vinyl...
You still need to answer these questions:MM or MC? Budget? New or Used?
Buying HiFi at credit, anyone?
I haven't paid interest to a credit card company in eight years. I pay off my personal card monthly and use new card balance transfer options which offer no interest for 12+ months. I have a PT job as an adjunct professor at a local college that c...
Buying HiFi at credit, anyone?
Despite what most of the previous posters have stated, I not only do I think it's OK to buy on credit, I think it's a smart move to borrow against the future. IF, you have something better to do with your cash today AND you have a plan to pay it off.
Adjusting tubes for bias and other tube hassles
I think the biasing and other hand-on "hassles" you describe, including rolling, testing, etc. are part of the allure of using tubes. Just like the experiences of LP playback (cleaning, setting up your table, etc.) make it unique. As they say, the...
Current recordings on vinyl?
I always thought this was kinda weird but, Mapleshade recordings brag about live two channel analog recording and their similar philosophy but, then digitize their sound: No LP releases???
Running for Dummest question EVER
Butsy, are you trying to say that LP playback is analogous to a B&W TV in quality?? And then you have the nerve to try to placate and assuage us with your second post? Further, I've HEARD systems with wide frequency response and no background ...
Crank it up just once
RWYou have a nice day too!!
Classical 2 die 4...top 5?
I've thought about asking this too but, imagined that I'd have to narrow it down based on my tastes since, like Jazz, the types are too extreme: Modern vs. Baroque, Symphonic vs. Chamber, Opera? etc.
Interconnects for turntable set up
Call Cardas and Acoustic Zen and ask their owners how they think their cables compare to JPS.
many a question to be answered
You might want to distill this to one question.
Looking to get started
I'm always curious to know what makes people want to do this? Or, in other words, what are your expectations? Do you feel that our current source will be improved? Just curious.
