What Turntable to buy under $600 ? Stan. Ouch on your remarks of the Koetsu. I really enjoy mine. :-) I agree fully on the RB tone arms. I have owned a couple over the years in various states of modification and they are no more than junk once a certain level of performance is requ...
What Turntable to buy under $600 ? I second Stanhifi. If idler wheels had sonic merit they would be readily available now. It is not mere coincidence that the all audiophile table are belt driven. The best audiophile turntables are belt driven because at our current level of techno...
3 questions re: Rega RB 600/RB 1000 Overhang. You may want to consider an arm other than a Rega 1000 since you will need to replace the armboard anyway. The Graham 2.1 and SME 309 both retail for about the same and IMHO are better arms.
What Turntable to buy under $600 ? Dvdgreko. I have not owned a SOTA Sapphire or Sumiko Premier FT-3 arm, but I have heard the combination is good from a number or reputable (?) posters and I have no doubt in my mind it is substantially better than a P3. If you can get said table i...
What Turntable to buy under $600 ? DvdGreco. While I agree the P3 is an easy table to set up and offers a no-worries experience, it is at best a 'beginners' table not really as capable as many people claim. The Rega arms are fair (better than the Rega turntables) but again, vastly ...
Music Hall MMF-5: laid back sound? Do not look at Rega for anything. They are fine tables for the price, as are MMF tables. Dan_ed is right when he says you need to purchase a 1.5K or more (retail) table to get into the next notch. A Rega will only disappoint. Also, do not get too b...
New cart, step-up or ??? Dear Lugnut. After having previously endured some dialogue with Raul I took the liberty of looking at his system. I noticed his speakers are almost flush against the rear wall; a wall with two large untreated windows. My ears ache just thinking wh...
New cart, step-up or ??? I second Clio09 suggestion of a Lundahl step up. They sound way better than what their modest price suggests.
Beginning the Analog Adventure If you are interested in phono kits try http://audionotekits.espyderweb.net/, http://www.bottlehead.com/ and http://www.hagtech.com/. There are a few others around, but I have personal experience with these companies and their kits and customer se...
Beginning the Analog Adventure Ok, I'll buck the trend here. You should get quite a bump in performance by upgrading to something like used VPI HW, especially if you can get the Mk 4 version. You should be able to get one with arm within your budget. Your budget does not allow ...
Do small preamp tubes 12ax7 need to be matched? I always use matched tubes. Many amps allow output tubes to be biased individually but I have never seen that for smaller tubes.Note: Tubes like the 12AU7 are stereo tubes, i.e. they each have a pair of plates, grids and cathodes. I am unfamiliar ...
best turntable under $5k Another turntable you may want to consider is the progressive (http://www.progressive-engineering.com) I had been looking in the $4000 range and the folks one the Bottlehead forum steered me towards Progressive. The TT is very well built and easil...
Analog newbee looking for advice Dburdick, if you don't try, you will never know. As I mentioned before, the posters do have valid points BUT they are too negative. My experience is that to get anywhere in life is to take some level of risk; losers are ones that always take the s...
Analog newbee looking for advice I agree with the comments of the posters although I think some are far too negative. The many rituals that pertain to playing LPs become enjoyable after a while. What you do need to consider in a good phono stage. As somebody that roll-my-own wh...
anyone have setup tips on an old Koetsu Black? Koetsu's work very well on a Morch UP4 - better than on a Ittok and waaay better than on a Rega.I ran my Rosewood on a yellow dot for a while. It didn't sound bad with the yellow dot, but the sound has improved a lot since I changed to a blue dot.... |
