The best speaker you ever heard?
For all you guys crying "Watt/Puppy!", I have to ask if you've heard the Hyperion 938s? I have them and I doubt that they're the best speakers in the world but they are pretty damn good. Are the reviewers who've said they're better (or as good as)...
845s: To biamp or not
Hmm. The power tube gets hot but no part of the chassis really does (845 version). If your cabinet is open on the top, I think it'd be Ok.But why hide them?
Consonance Cyber 800/845 Valve amps; how good?
No argument. Nobody knows at what levels sound is damaging and certainly it varies by individual and the nature of the noise. Bad hifi can be very fatiguing well below 90dB as we all know and it *feels* like it's doing damage!!I've suffered just a...
Consonance Cyber 800/845 Valve amps; how good?
Only problem with that is it doesn't take much 100dB+ to start damaging your hearing...
Consonance Cyber 800/845 Valve amps; how good?
Thanks for that post, Trelja. Echos what I've heard from many insiders about the audiophiles running these Chinese companies - they're serious and they know their shit. And what's wrong with 95db? I tend to listen just a bit below that, with peaks ...
Consonance Cyber 800/845 Valve amps; how good?
Just thought I'd point out that the Enjoy the Music review follow-up mentions that the caps are Rubycons. He's been inside the amps and knows his stuff.Based on that, and actually the fact that there's no evidence at all that the caps are "fakes",...
Consonance Cyber 800/845 Valve amps; how good?
I'm here late, but here's my $.03.I have a pair of the Cyber 845s and I cannot say I've ever heard better amplification. It probably exists, but I've heard many tube amps up to nearly $10K, PP and SET, a lot of switching amps, and a lot of SS amps...
Current mode vs voltage mode
Sean,Good post, but I think you're mistaken on a couple counts. The first is that people who judge amps based largely or mostly on THD (and sometimes IMD) don't exist anymore. They do - some of them spend $40,000 on Halcro amplifiers, for example....
845s: To biamp or not
Interesting. I find the amps to be - heavenly, as I think I said in another thread today.I have had a lot of gear through my place in the last year. The combination of the Hyperion 938s with these amps and a transformer linestage is the best it's ...
Power Amp for Hyperion 938
Hello there. I bought a pair of 938s a month ago and am running them with Consonance Cyber 845 monoblocks. 28 watts, SET. I have to say the sound is completely heavenly; it is butterly-smooth and extended, holographic, highs are shimmering, and ba...
Tube amp recommendation for Gallo Reference 3's
I can tell you that 50W of push-pull tube power is PLENTY for Ref 3s in ANY situation, unless you want rock-concert volumes (which the speakers aren't capable of w/out breaking up anyway). I enjoyed them immensely with a pair of AES Six Pacs which...
845s: To biamp or not
I agree that you can't put a "price" on subjective improvements. If $20K speakers do it for you, and you can afford em, then buy em, of course. I didn't mean to suggest it's not "worth it" - it's all relative! Cheers,Paul
845s: To biamp or not
Tbg,As I had suspected, your budget is far beyond mine. :-} I think I did very well in the price range with the Cybers. Your system is a level beyond. (Meaning your 10x expendure of cash gets you... 10% further? :-})Paul
845s: To biamp or not
Tbg,The main caps on my amps are Rubycon. I'm pretty sure *all* of them were. Maybe they are doing things differently now (mine are brand new) or maybe this is a difference between the 211 and 845 versions, though that seems unlikely.Again, I thou...
Is Bi - amping worth the trouble?
FWIW, you cannot in fact say there is a "consensus" here or in audio in general that bi-amping is simply superior (active or passive).Bi-amping has one theoretical disadvantage: the loss of coherency due to mixing two different amps with their uni...
