Do these speakers exist?
If you think 90dB speakers can't work well with higher power, 845 and up SETs, your experience isn't broad enough. What you note about Thiels is apparantly NOT true of the new 3.7. They are supposed to be a much easier load. I don't know for sure.I...
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
I have Zu Druids in my 2nd system. They are very nice speakers. However, they are not in the SOTA league of such $10K+ speakers as the new Thiels and higher-end Green Mountain C3s.I already have great speakers in my Hyperion and Zus. I'm kinda loo...
Do these speakers exist?
Thanks for the replies.1) The Green Mountain speakers are absolutely killer. The C3 is quite a stretch for me at $17K and the Calypso is 88dB sensitive and 4ohms. Likely marginal with SET.2) I used to have Gallo Ref 3s. They are 88dB and just don'...
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
Roy gave me this very sensible response to the coincident driver issue: "Regarding co-incident drivers: Any 1" dome tweeter, below 5kHz, wants to radiate in an omni-directional pattern. This means that much of the sound you would hear from a co-ax...
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
Hey, you could even boldy suggest I check the archives. I did search; the problem is always TOO MUCH information. But I'll do that. And I've talked with Roy privately, being that I've been strongly considering the C3s. He's the best. Have not asked...

set vs otl, which is the most musical
Another very important point is that any SET is only producing 10% 2nd-order HD at its max output or very close to it. For this reason, I do think it's a good idea to plan a system with the SETs not required to go about 50% or so output. At that l...
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
Thanks, Pardales! Have been hearing this from a number of folks. Seems I'm not crazy after all.
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
Bumping this up since this "version" of the thread has actual testimonies of people giving up SACD for redbook with a NOS DAC.
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
Yeah, unfortunately double-use of the acronym here. ;-}Best NOS DAC I've heard is AudioNote. Unfortunately, this was a $21K front-end with the transport. About 10x above my budget. But they all have the same basic characteristics - smoothness. Ver...
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
Well, I don't know. You could argue that NOS done right IS new technology. I mean, nobody was building DACs like this 15 years ago! Just because upsampling came later than the original (default) NOS route doesn't mean it's superior.Have you heard ...
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
Moderator, could you move these posts to the other thread of the same title... it now has more posts... 1,000 apologies.
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
Well, Pawlowski6132, there are a lot of folks that disagree with you.If you're taking a "technology" view of audio you should be very happy with an iPod.
SACD vs. Redbook with NOS DAC
I accidently posted the thread twice - please move your post to the other - thanks!
