Got the itch again "real bad" for tube mono blocks
It is very likely they will drive them very well.I drove 88dB Gallos with them very well in an open room, but impedance & phase characteristics are more important to the equation. I don't know the Alons. They had incredible bass considering the...
Green Mountain C3 speakers
It's sad I'm the 1st one responding to this.I heard them at RMAF and had to have a pair. Couldn't be happier. They aren't light-years away from my Hyperions in every way, but they get certain things right like only time & phase correct speaker...
TVC Gain effects
My source is 2V and amps' sens. 1.1V. I'd "thought" that the +6 setting sounded better to me, too, but then I learned that I was wrong on paper. :-}
TVC Gain effects
Would that go for any S&B tranny implementation, then? Hard to see why it wouldn't.Does anyone have any guesses as to what could cause such an improvement with gain? Other than that the induced response variations end up correcting for some ot...
TVC Gain effects
Thanks! I did find this information on the S&B page as well.I guess it is better to use a volume setting closer to unity gain (-8 or -12dB usually) with the 6dB switch off then to keep it on with a lower setting. With a source Zout of around 30...
Preamp Deal of the Century
I was wondering if I could hear from people who have replaced a TVC linestage with a Supratek and experienced a large increase in dynamics and any other positive effects?I've been very happy with my TVC but have noted that my system does lack SOTA...
Mainstream reviews-why so few?
Seandtaylor99, I completely misunderstood you. I thought we were talking about manufacturer specs only. I agree with you that some reviews with detailed measurements would be nice.
Mainstream reviews-why so few?
Seandtaylor99 - GMA more forthcoming with measurements??? They publish more data than about any other speaker manufacturer I can think of. Have you looked at their comparison charts on the site? There is a lot of data, including things like disper...
Mainstream reviews-why so few?
The consipracy theoriests says it's because the industry is an "Old Boys Club" where only the personal friends of the writers and editors get their stuff reviewed (glowingly), and/or those who are willing to cough up big advertising dollars.I'm no...
Questions Re: Time & Phase Alignment
songwriter72, what are you driving your Calypsos with?Theloveman (hmm.. I feel slightly uncomfortable calling you that), I thought the Thiel 3.7s were very impressive. Not as good as the C3s, but very, very good speakers.Sounds like you are referr...
Do these speakers exist?
Yeah, agree on that. Find that old thread circa '02-'03 and you'll be even more impressed. He has an answer for everything... not a marketing/BS/subjective/questionable answer but a real, thorough, detailed answer backed-up with physics and acoust...
Do these speakers exist?
I had forgotten all about VPRS. A lot of people sure love them. Never heard those either. Geneally I have to either drive for hours or go to a show to hear stuff. They are sensitive, too.I went thru the archives here including a loooong thread abo...
Do these speakers exist?
$5K? For the current version? Hard to believe.Roy is such a great guy to deal with, such an asset to the industry, and has taken so much time to answer questions, I'd honestly feel a bit guilty about buying them used. Maybe that's stupid. I suppos...
Do these speakers exist?
The Vandersteens are just a bit off on the sensitivity. 87 is not high enough. Not in an open room. I'll have to try to hear these speakers, though. Never heard them.Is the question stupid? Forget about 845 SETs if you want speakers like this? Yes...
Do these speakers exist?
Duke, you're absolutely right! Except that I already have a pair of Consonance Cyber 845 monos that I really, really like and just don't want to part with.I really am into SET... I have been through zillions of amps and want to stick with SET. The...
