Looking for amp $1000 or under Ron, I think that is your problem. I did that long ago, my Preamp was in the shop being upgraded and ran an Integra receiver pre out to an the McCormack DNA and was unlistenable. Just weak and bland, no soundstage. If you have under $1000 to spend...
Looking for amp $1000 or under Ron are you using marantz as a preamp to your ps audio amp? If so that may be the problem. If so pre and hca2 don't match up impedance properly. If you can find a preamp within your budget first that is route I would go. Tube Preamps mates well wi...
Looking for amp $1000 or under Get schematics from ps Audio they have awesome customer service and the answer phone and will send you schematics on the spot. Then email schematics to parts Connextion and Sonicraft and they will guide you through mod.
Looking for amp $1000 or under Sure, if you want to give it a shot start off just changing out the 4 signal coupling caps. 2 caps are run in series for each channel to total 4 signal caps. Back when this amp was being modded everyone was using black gates but they are no longer...
Looking for amp $1000 or under Are you leaving amp on 24/7 if not it sounds like crap. I've never seen an amp take so long to come around after sitting up like HCA-2. McCormack and other a/b amps took 1 to 2 days to warm up. HCA-2 can take 4 to five which I've never seen an amp...
Looking for amp $1000 or under Your HCA-2 can be a very nice amp with a very few mods. It has its flaws in stock form but after mod is a totally different amp. I own a HCA-2 with full blown Reference Audio Mods from back in the day and love it. I also owned a McCormack DNA-1 ...
Phono Cart Impedance Question You mentioned it may be a tube issue have you tried tapping the tube pins on countertop lightly or tap glass bottle with pencil eraser. I have same issue sometimes with my broken in or newly purchased NOS tubes. Some metal flakes can be on interna...
Jupiter Copper Foil, Paper & Wax Cap Versus Jensen Cap 0.10uF 630Vdc Copper Foil Ceramic I've had good results with both the Jupiter cooper foil and Miflex copper. My Preamp called for a 2.0uf for signal cap in each channel I had already changed out all the caps in my speaker except for rear firing tweeter which called for a 1.0uf. So...

Hi-Fi Lo-Fi It does sound better when the whole system was bought cheap with killer good deals. I put together a $600 system that really sounds good. My main system would retail over $30,000 without wire. I bought it all used so maybe little more than 1/3 of ...
Looking for A Cost Effective Phono Amp- Any suggestions?" I noticed your mating with a Linn. I have PS Audio matched with a LInn Lp12 with pink link out board power supply with Soundsmith cartridge. The pink link helps with dynamics. When I sent lp12 in for upgrades I pulled a Linn Axis with basic plus t...
Looking for A Cost Effective Phono Amp- Any suggestions?" There is a PS audio GCPH phono stage here on Audiogon for $450. I have the parts conextion modded GCPH version in a second system. I think it is a great bang for buck phono pre. Plenty of gain not thin sounding at all, nice detail, big bass. It ha...
Impact of phase inversion by preamp I agree with verdant there is a change in bass and detail in my system and very noticeable. I have a Bruce Moore Preamp that recommends reverse polarity which I do. I have a invert phase switch on phono pre with a remote so I can switch from my ch...
Bruce Moore Custom M125 I own one of his preamps but you will be on your own if you run into any trouble, I know this from experience. There is no one to contact, but his stuff really does sound good.
