$50 is really low but can be done, cheap Wattgates will be most of your budget.Go to Home Depot, for amps use 6 or 8 gauge stranded or solid core. For. Source 8 to 12 gauge.  If 6 or 8 gauge solid core you will need to shrink wrap the wire. Use a ...
FEX EX Damaged New Legacy's
I've always used FedEx or asked anyone I purchase audio gear from to please use FedEx. Then my son while on Christmas break got a job at FedEx loading trucks. He told me stories that were just hard to listen to knowing my gear may have had to endu...
DIY cables question
Scorpio43, if you don't have a third hand go to Harbor Freight there $5 and angle tube towards you or level so solder doesn't disappear down tube on you. You can get 3 solder suckers for $10 shipped on amazon. A quality solder iron was also key fo...
DIY cables question
I'm no expert but if your solder joint is gray or looks like a bubble gum blob you may want to resolder. Solder joint should be shiny or mirror like. A solder sucker is your friend. I've always found when you tin stranded wire it should be totall...
CDP or DAC?
I've enjoyed the Exemplar CD players for many years. First started off with Exemplar Denon 2900 tube CD player which I still own and is still running in second system with 2 laser replacements. The Exemplar tube Oppo 105 with outboard power supply...
Need a DAC Recommendation.
ripleydog, I understand your comment wishing to take the tube out of Orchid would make things more interesting. The closest thing I found to making it sound a little more neutral and transparent was adding the Garage 1217 adapter and using a 6922 ...

If you can solder there is a pair of Grover Huffman 2 meter FX plus balanced cable on Audio Circle for $80 shipped.  Cut them in half and add 4 switchcraft rca's for $10 bucks per cable.  You can make 2 pair for $100. I bought a 8 meter pair for $...
MHDT dac/Garage 1217 adapter owners your favorite tubes
I'm not looking for a specific sound. Just enjoy the lush relaxed sound of the RCA vt-231 and accuracy of the Siemens the best with the Amprex bugle boy a close third.  Bugle boy has alway been a great all around tube in my preamps over the years ...
MHDT dac/Garage 1217 adapter owners your favorite tubes
Sorry low rider I should of said, Siemens 7308 and the Amprex bugle boy are my 2 favorite 6922 family of tubes not "Siemens 7308 / Bugle boy".
Stacking gear no more rack space does it affect sound quality
I've not noticed any noise problem or any heat issues. I do have cables placed as organized as possible. Amp and anything with tubes are not stacked. I've just heard if to much weight is on a component it  can deaden the sound. I don't know if I b...
Broke key guide on 6sn7 how to keep using tube
Thanks imhifan, got it, put meter on pins and found 7 and 8 and key is located between 1 and 8. Your awesome thanks for the info, you saved some sweet old vt-231 tubes.
Broke key guide on 6sn7 how to keep using tube
Thanks vinylzone and millercarbon,  on rca vt231 you can see where key may have been on the other tube not so much. If my memory is right I think my Mullard fx2's have numbers but none of the 6sn7's are numbered. I even pulled out some matching tu...
Need a DAC Recommendation.
The Doge looks very interesting, there is a lot of nice parts in there, looks really well built. I just read up on it and it really sparked my interest. Anyone compared that to the MHDT Orchid?
Capacitor
That's a big value and can get pricey, I've had good luck with Claity Cap CMR, Jantzen Aumin Z then for a smoother rich sound copper foil, Juniper, Miflex the copper foil are great for bypass also. Sonicaps aren't bad for the money certainly if yo...
