Looking for my End Game Speaker
Vandersteen Treo CT, which can be placed very close to the front wall, or its bigger brother the Quatro CT (or even the Kento, but $$$$) . The Humboldt is a superb integrated, I’ve read, and the question is whether it would work with the high-pass...
Who puts their speakers right up against the back wall and why?
Re Larsens, vinylvalet ... I have been intrigued with them for years and read all the reviews, but haven't auditioned them. Sadly, The founder, Mr. Larsen, recently died and the future of the company is uncertain, according to the US distributor ...
Who remembers California Audio Labs?
dekay - I still have one too (since the late 90s!) and it sounds great, imo. It’s my backup, to a Rega which is excellent too. The CalAudio is very close in performance. I mostly stream now, with all my CDs ripped to a Roon server.
Physically Comfortable Headphones
@yoyoyaya  - Interesting ("Sennheiser HD800 - much more comfortable than the 650s and extremely light"). I have used the Senn 650 for years and find them very comfortable. I will have to try out the 800 if I decide to upgrade.
High end bookshelf speakers for Small room
Vandersteen Treo CT. They don't take up any more floor space than a bookshelf/monitor speaker on a stand, and can be placed very close to the front wall. Or Audio Note.
Magico speakers too clinical and fatiguing?
"I think Magicos are great outdoor speakers because they don't warp or rust." LOL!
Why are Harbeth speakers expensive while its drivers are not.
I have read that manufacturers of some of the speakers which are based on the original BBC-type monitors have to pay a license fee to the BBC. Of all the variations and permutations of the BBC-type monitors made by Graham, Harbeth, Spendor and oth...
Where Do I Go from Here?
Vandersteen Quatro CT would be my choice, for "only" $20k.  https://www.stereophile.com/content/vandersteen-quatro-wood-ct-loudspeaker-m5-hpa-monoblock-power-amplifier
Mofi Sourcepoint 888?
"did many things impressively except for the upper midrange lower treble dry, brash flavor." That’s not so good! What were they driven with, @avanti1960 ? @deep_333 , I still want to hear them with some good class A/B gear.
Mofi Sourcepoint 888?
I’ve seen great reports on these from shows (AXPONA etc) by Absolute Sound, Stereophile and others, saying they are another home run by Andrew Jones, and were some of the best speakers for the money at the recent shows. Reports say the bass in par...
New Vandersteen Preamp L5-ACC - Axpona show report in Absolute Sound July/Aug issue
Every new expensive preamp is a world-beater! LOL! Solid-state electronics have been a settled issue for decades! Now THAT is funny! I guess Soulution, Constellation and the others who introduced expensive new SS high-end gear in Munich and at ...
Would I benefit with Roon?
"Buying the lifetime subscription to Roon was the single best investment I have made in my audio system." - @jaytor Me too. I have discovered more new music that I love than I EVER thought possible. I love that there are so many streamer/servers...
Looking for the next level in imaging...
@mikelavigne , Thanks so much, re "here are those room tuning links to what i did back in 2015."
Looking for the next level in imaging...
@mijostyn , points well taken. I was born in 1957, by the way! Got my first decent system (for me, as a teen) in HS (Bose 301s!), but had fallen in love with music reproduction long before then, lying on the living room floor listening to Dionne W...
Looking for the next level in imaging...
Hi @mikelavigne re: "but when it comes to musical connection, my highest priority is ’why’ and ’what’ the musician is doing, not ’where’ he is doing it. it’s the musical intent and musical energy, micro and macro dynamics, textures, rich tonalit...
