Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
I think we can all agree there's no absolute rule, but there's a rule 90% of the time: original pressings from country where the record was recorded sound better. You can try to fool yourself or argue yourself out of this, but the fact is that the...
Re-issue vinyl vs. the original pressing
The problem is that the original master tapes have often vanished... search Google for Billboard's articles about the state of major recording labels' artchives. Frequently a second, third or fourth generation safety master has been used, or the r...
Pitch problem. Help
It's a belt-drive, right? Check to see that the belt is correctly centered on the pulley and the platter, and that it isn't defective (torn or stretched). If the belt is fine, power may indeed be the culprit.Patrick
Upgrade Denon 103 R to Shelter 501 II?
Peter wrote:"Wow - makes me wonder if something was wrong with my Denon!"I doubt it, but was the low-compliance Denon well-matched with your Nottingham arm? I have no idea - I'm not familiar with the specs on your arm. In addition, what phonostage...
Tom Evens Groove Plus
uktl wrote:"many valve amps struggle with the groove because they thenselves are phase inverting which basicly kills the grooves performance"uktl, I think this is unlikely because about 50% of all records out there are recorded with inverted polar...
Upgrade Denon 103 R to Shelter 501 II?
I "downgraded" from a Shelter 901 (and a Benz L2, and an Ortofon SPU GTE and SPU GM Classic) to a Denon 103R. I couldn't be happier, and have ordered a few extra 103Rs in case Denon ever stops making them.Patrick
Calling Aesthetix IO Users
I posted this response to your question on Vinyl Asylum - here it is again.Since absolute polarity varies from recording to recording, there is no "right" setting. You have to know which labels used non-inverted polarity and which used inverted po...
To Aesthetix users
Hi AQ4life,I leave the Io on all the time. This is recommended by Aesthetix and longtime users here such as Albert Porter. Best for sound and for tube life.I've never heard the whistling high-pitched sound. Do you know if your Mills resistors (use...
To Aesthetix users
Nkj, thanks for all your help... and sorry for missing your earlier post about lead dressing. Sol, tell me about it! And thanks, it was a journey.I just tested for RF again with my BAT volume control at 10, 20 and then 30 with no record playing......
To Aesthetix users
Sorry to revive this old thread, but I finally solved the problem. It wasn't the RSA Duke that did it... though that is currently installed. Nor was it the balanced tonearm cable from Ikeda... though that is also currently installed. Nor was it Car...
Anyone here using vintage speakers?
Quad ESL-57sJust got them, they're amazing, not perfect for every kind of music, difficult to set up in the room, but when they work, oh my gosh they work. Right now Schubert's second piano trio Op. 100 with Stern/Istomin/Rose is so perfectly prec...
Denon DL 103r What Preamp or Step up
The price difference is enormous, but so what. It's synergistic. I use my 103R direct into my Aesthetix Io Signature with the gain set at 72 dB.Patrick
12" Tonearm What Have You Heard & Recommend?
Agree with Bigbucks and Raul on the Ikeda IT-407. A wonderful, wonderful arm.It has displaced the Graham 2.2 Deluxe, two vintage 9" Ortofons and an Origin Live in my system.Patrick
distortion at the end of record
Many threads already exist about this, so search, but in short:1. tracks at end of record are frequently more compressed and thus difficult to track2. in orchestral music they also often contain climaxes that are the most difficult to track anyway...
TIME to break in a Denon 103R
50 hours sounds about right, though it will start sounding sweet maybe 20 hours in.Btw, don't dismiss the 103R as just a backup cartridge or value option. (See my other post under the Zyx thread about amortization of R&D costs.) It's an incred...
