How about moving to vinyl - or R2R - and hearing what the master tape actually sounded like?Patrick
Decca cartridge experiences
I'm assuming the Decca wouldn't work in a Graham, Johnnantais?Another question - the L75 - how difficult is it to mount in a new plinth? Also, how difficult is it to drill for a new tonearm?ThanksPatrick
Help: my phono preamp is blowing away my linestage
Bwhite, thanks for the advice. So you're using the Io Sig with volume control, direct to your amp?
Help: my phono preamp is blowing away my linestage
Hi Rushton,Yes that does help. I think my mind's made up -- I need to go with the Aesthetix volume control upgrade. Now to plan my next vacation so I can coordinate the upgrade with my absence from the listening room.Patrick
Help: my phono preamp is blowing away my linestage
Hi Rushton,Yes I have been considering this. It's probably the right step. I'm not so into no-remote control and 2 separate volume controls, but it's probably worth the added transparency. How do you find the quality of the line level?Patrick

Dweller: re: the Janus, I've heard the Io Sig is miles better than the Rhea, which is the phono section of the Janus... I don't want to give up what I've already got.Swampwalker: I've heard great things about Supratek, but more about their phono s...
Help: my phono preamp is blowing away my linestage
Hi denf: not from preamp manufacturers (so far as I'm aware!) but from discussions here and at AA. It seems that many people try out a good passive like the Bent, initially like it, and then switch to an active such as an Audion. My understanding i...

Plato: Parasound, huh? No 2000s available right now, but I see the PLD-1500, also a John Curl design. Is it comparable?Patrick

I've been considering the Bent Audio Noh passive volume control (based on S&B TX-102 transformers), but I've heard that passives are much less dynamic than active preamps. Also I do want to rediscover my CDs again, and I'm thinking a passive m...

One person's hassle is another person's idea of a great time.I like the time, the involvement, the rituals. The sense that one is handling precious objects - LP, turntable, tonearm, cartridge, stylus.I like the gorgeous construction of well-made a...
Aesthetix IO vs. Manley Steelhead vs. The Groove
Actually.... duh... the radio station is being picked up by the headphone cable, which is acting as an antenna, and is draped over the Io boxes (currently lying on the floor between me and the headphone amp). Some rearrangement is called for.
Aesthetix IO vs. Manley Steelhead vs. The Groove
Unit is back with me - plugged it in today and it sounds fantastic. Listening with headphones right now.One issue - I'm picking up a radio station, especially audible between tracks on the phones. Any ideas how to deal with this? I'm running at ma...
Best performing cartridge under $500.00?
Denon 103RHaven't heard the Grado Sonata, but it definitely blows away the Shure.Only catch is you have to buy a step-up transformer with the Denon. But it won't be a problem since the Denon is well under $500.
Machina Dynamica under 'table?
I tried one under my Acoustic Solid One. I can report that it's too compliant under a table that heavy and with an outboard motor. Despite Geoff's very helpful advice, it was nearly impossible to find a position for the springs that is both level ...

Unit is back with Jim - he said "I want to make sure customers are treated like kings" - I'll post again when I get it back.
