Has anyone tried the new McIntosh CD changer?
I have had my player burning in now for about 200 hours. Here it goes:Goooood music. One word that comes to mind: "coherent". All the music I am hearing is being played in the proper proportions and is completely palatable. Smooth, deep base. Lots...

Has anyone tried the new McIntosh CD changer?
I recently purchased the 205 changer. It is not fully burned in yet -- I've got about 72 hours on it. So far the sound is very smooth. Plenty of bass, lots of midrange, and appealing, though not bright, highs. One of the more coherent presentation...
Used Cary or Used Meridian
Ideally, you would be able to listen to what you were considering buying. If you can't listen, you will have to go with verbal rec's only which is always risky. Both have great reputations and either could serve you well. This is probably less tha...
Meridian CD Players
I would also be interested in hearing comparisons between the 506.24 and 508.24 as well as the 506.20 and 508.20 --
Cheap Sony SACD players: best STOCK/MODified
I own the 333 stock. It is a very nice player for redbooks and just excellent on SACD's. I spoke to Mr. Kern who told me, in his opinion, that a modded 333 (about $850 in mods) will sound atleast as good as most $2000 stock players. One point that ...
Meridian CD Players
508.24 is one of the better straight 24 bit players I have ever heard.
Cary 306/100 demo/cheap or 306/200 or 303/200 new?
Given the $3100-$3300 range for used 306/200's -- if you are willing to spend that....I would not hesitate to get Cary's best player. The decision you will have to make is one of whether your comfortable buying used equipment. If you are, buy the ...
SACD finally taking-off? non-classical listeners
For redbook's I had an Anthem CD-1 (as transport) feeding the Perpetual Technologies combination. However, I no longer have that set, and am in the process of considering/auditioning new/used single box players in the 3K range. I am seriously cons...
SACD finally taking-off? non-classical listeners
I bought my first SACD player (Sony 333) recently and have acquired about 10 SACD's. I have about 500 redbook CD's. The SACD's sound great...imho...about %40 better than redbook. So, I will enjoy what I can get out of SACD, and keep upgrading my C...
New vs Used CD Player
I agree with Weiserb. In fact I feel the opposite of the people who say buy the stuff that changes frequently (digital gear) new. Buy used unless you are sure you are going to keep the piece for a long, long time. If you are going to keep the piec...
How much should I spend?
Your point is well taken about the quality of A/D converter. I will not be using this set-up for reference copies or archival masters, or anything like that, but want to be able to make quality recordings that stick pretty close to the original wi...
multi cd players
Sony SCD 555 or 333 gives you good redbook playback as well as the ability to listen to SACD. They can both be had new for well under 1K and if you ever wanted to do something different for D/A conversion they have coaxial and optical output. A us...
Selection of cd player under 5000 used for...
You might consider buying a used No. 39 Cd player and then sending it to Levinson for the 390S upgrade. I think you can stay pretty close to 5K by doing that.
