Green Mountain Audio Imagos
Well to try and take this thread back on topic, looks like I am going to go for the Imago in their vIII iteration. If I like what I hear, I will send the xovers back to Roy to bring them up to current status.Glad you guys could amuse yourself........
Speakers to replace Martin logan Prodigys
I agree with Tvad. I owned the VR4 Silvers for over 3 years and I don't think they would ever work well up against a wall. In fact, they should be in medium - large rooms and placed well away from walls so the bass doesn't become overpowering and ...
Silverline Sonata II or III owners
Yohjo,You are describing the sound of the Sonata IIIs, which should be vastly different than the IIs since they use all Dynaudio drivers. And I was definitely using tubes on my Sonata IIs. I am not saying they are bad speakers, but just had shortc...
Silverline Sonata II or III owners
The sound I am talking about was first heard on jazz guitar, and I am guessing here, around 500-800 Hz. I can tell you the first thing I heard it on was Russell Malone's guitar on a Diana Krall disc. The sound was smeared and had a "cupped hands" ...
Silverline Sonata II or III owners
I agree with Mike. I owned the v2 Sonatas for a brief while. They are extremely dynamic and will play effortlessly, but are a little bottom heavy and have a boxy coloration in the midrange. I didn't pick up on it right away, but after I heard it o...

McCormack DNA-1 compared to Parasound HCA-1500A
Buy a Bryston if you want hi-fi sound, buy a McCormack if you want music.Oz
McCormack DNA-1 compared to Parasound HCA-1500A
I'm no SS expert, being a tube guy. But all McCormack amps have sounded good to my ears. I have owned the standard DNA-1, DNA-2 and DNA-1 Deluxe monoblocks and liked them all. Especially the monoblocks. Coda also makes some very nice sounding SS a...
Unable to audition used speakers a problem
>This is one reason why I listen to my system at the same volume control setting for every recording,<I don't get how you can do this. Every recording has a volume level where it "locks in". For example, you wouldn't want to play simple "gir...
Unable to audition used speakers a problem
>Prefer to audition because IMO speakers are more difficult to evaluate than other gear when they have not been heard.<Rockdanny,I see your point, BUT, the speakers in question (any speakers, really) are not going to sound the same in YOUR r...
What music is your system setup for?
I didn't give any thought to one particular type of music when I set up my system. And I think that one that is well put together will do justice to anything you throw at it. My speakers are well into the room, no need for boundary reinforcement. ...
What are these "SUPERBIT" DVD's?
>As far as Salo goes<Salo, huh? Did I miss something?Oz
McCormack DNA-1 compared to Parasound HCA-1500A
I assure you the McCormack is a much better sounding amplifier. Years ago I replaced a Parasound HCA 2200 II with a standard DNA-1 and this was quite an improvement. The McCormack is more refined and balanced sounding with a slightly warm midrange...
Question about Druids
>Never pay full price for these<What exactly did you mean by this comment?Oz
Zu Druids
I agree wholeheartedly with Tvad. There isn't any speaker that will perform optimally in that type of situation. Just be aware that the sound will be compromised whatever you purchase. If you can live with that, fine. But you might want to rethink...
