Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
Sean, how do you know so much about so many things? It's amazing!I'm changing my vote for the $ no object car. Did a little research and am now lusting for the Porsche 911 GT2 -- 462 HP and low weight. The kids have left home so I don't need a bac...
Best 5 channel amp under 4k
It's hard to argue against the Bryston 9B-ST. If you need to put this unit in a more enclosed space where heat can be an issue, check out the Sunfire line-up. Very nice sound. Runs very cool.

Shoot, I've been attributing that quote to Tennyson for years now. Thanks for setting me straight.I've been kicking around this site for the last year or two but have never responded to this thread -- usually, by the time I was done reviewing it, ...
Cars. What does the typical audiophile drive?
2000 Audi A6 2.7T -- lots of fun for a roomy car$$ no object: BMW M5 and a '69-'71 Dodge Charger (though Lugnut's Nova sounds pretty cool!)
Suggested NEW CATEGORIES
Stereokarter, from your context, I assume you are talking about the Quick Shop categories rather than the Discussion Forum categories. The comments everyone made could apply to both. I would like to see more sub-categories in both sets of categori...

Wouldn't it be great if...
That would be great! You have my vote -- hopefully, the fine folks at Audiogon are "listening". It would be particularly nice to see the room setting since the acoustics make such a huge difference.
Speaker placement formula
You might want to buy a copy of F. Alton Everest's book on recording studio design (sorry I don't remember the exact title). It's pretty inexpensive and gets into the dynamics of the total room. Optimum speaker placement in a rectangular room depe...
My first and last DIY project
Those speakers are beautiful! Thanks for sharing this with us -- and thanks to you and other members for pointing us to Thorsten Loesch's work. I wonder whether the average audiophile would be able to pull off such a feat of implementation. Your a...
cornfedboy, signing off
Thanks for all of your forum contributions in the past and your contributions going forward in your new role. I've enjoyed your thoughts and your help. We'll all miss you and look forward to your future retirement when you can, once again, join us...
Thiel 6 versus Thiel 7
A few years ago, I was able to directly compare the Thiel CS-6's with the 7.2's. Frankly, I could not hear enough of a difference to justify anywhere near the additional expense. I was listening to jazz, classical and rock in a well designed audit...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Slawney. Very nice discourse. Sounds like you destroyed her heart and she destroyed your "heartware". I'm not getting into a discussion of which is most dear. However, if we flip this around a bit, aren't many of the responses in this thread relat...
great deals on jazz and blues
I agree. They are not superb but much better than many I've heard and I would not rate them as "cheap" recordings. Very listenable and good bang for the buck -- note that, though these are two album sets, they are typically on one CD. Cheers.
Why Don't More People Love Audio?
Keis, I agree with both your points but especially your first. Many people who love music and go to live performances at every opportunity simply don't regularly listen to music at home. My wife and I play music all the time! Maybe it's a "chicken...
