Please explain clipping
Jcbtubes, I thought I knew what clipping was, but now I wonder. From your post, it appears that clipping is not amplitude related, as I thought it was -- did the 2kw amp produce clipping even at very low volumes? Was it more a function of slew rat...
Sony 9000ES: DanWright or StanWarren Mod
I bought a used Perpetual Technologies set-up with the Dan Wright mods and power supply -- it sounds great and does not void the warranty since the company approves Dan Wright mods. Then, I sent him a Pioneer DV-525 and the blacks are blacker and ...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Greg, I'll give you three tweaks and a small box of cables for your mother-in-law! How about just for a week or so? I bet you and she could clean up by having her tour the country and helping more Audiogon spouses see the light (er, hear the waves...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
I subscribed to various audio magazines and was an enthusiast for the first 16 years of our marriage without moving away from my system that I bought in college (which was nothing to write home about). During the last four years, Katie bar the doo...

Electrocompaniet EMC-1 Mk.II news
Thank you for your courtesy and work in sharing this review -- I don't speak Norwegian and appreciate seeing other perspectives. Bravo! -- Assuming of course you are not a dealer of this equipment ;-)Guenther
Info - CD copy protection
OK, so this prevents us from recording back-up copies or mixes. The big pirate companies will, I suspect, easily find a way around this. But Macrovision will make lots of money as will the companies who will spring up with their black boxes. Thank...
Hate to ask......
Like others here, I have two separate systems since I have two separate living areas. The HT has a modified Pioneer DVD, Lexicon, Sunfire and Paradigm Reference (v2) speakers. The main system is for stereo only and is a real joy since I upgraded t...
What is the best digital cable?
As you know, "best" is very subjective. I sure like the Stealth Varidig -- I have the 1.5m balanced and the sound is very clear.
Another Cryogenic Freeze Article HFNRR
Has anyone seen reviews or experienced whether the freezing has long term effects? I'm not a scientist (and I know from listening that science doesn't know it all by a long shot), but the effects of freezing may not last. I wonder if the freezing ...
ML 39 w/Bryston amp and Thiel 2.3?
Rsuminsby, I owned the 3B-ST and then moved to the 4B-ST with the Thiel 2.3. Then I moved to the 7B-ST with the Thiel CS-6. The Bryston/Thiel combination is a bit bright and can lead to some upper mid congestion, depending on room acoustics -- but...
What is your OTHER passion?
Glreno, I hope everyone here understands life if too short and beautiful for just one passion. From the sounds of it, maybe anyone with one passion also has others. I too love to drive fast but haven't got into racing (J thunders, glad Audi did we...
Straight wire with gain????
Sean, I like your Yin / Yang approach. Doug, you're absolutely correct in suggesting that no one system can do the trick. I think that's at the heart of the question. The "straight wire with gain" approach forces us to reach the single most pleasi...
Straight wire with gain????
I'm sorry. I mistyped. I mean a big fat "IMHO".
Room Acoustics Problem?
Gregg, thanks. I'll move the speakers out another one to two feet and retest. The bass doesn't exactly roll off. At 63 Hz, it's +3dB and then it plummets to -6dB at 50, -7dB at 40 and -6dB at 32 rising to +2dB at 25 and -1dB at 20. That's strange,...
