LONG LIVE THE KING
He's dead?? Wait a minute ... I think the National Enquirer and Globe would disagree.Seriously, I can't believe it's been 25 years. He shaped rock and roll! He'll live forever through influence.
Has your system changed the music you listen to?
Pardales, good observation! When I first heard a great system (not my own), Tomita and other similar music sounded great and changed my tastes. Later, when I got my first good (and perhaps best to date -- that's another story) car audio system, Ri...
Girlfriends and wifes, how do YOU cope?
Basement, I can't imagine being in a relationship where my partner doesn't support my passions; or where I don't support hers. Music can and should enhance relationships and become a part of them -- the music, gear and expenses need to fit into th...
Audiogoners, I love you........
Sean, stone you??? I think they're thinking of making a virtual stone sculpture of you! Would you like one arm or two? Standing or on a horse? Sabre or soldering iron?Kevziek, and all, I absolutely agree. This site and your musings and generosity ...
What will become of my beloved CDs?
You asked for an economist, so here goes ...First, there are no guarantees that high quality music will be available anytime soon via the internet. Yes, it will likely be there some day -- at a price. I would guess (hey, that's what economists do ...
Jazz Recommendations
Vincere, thanks for the recommendations. I heard Bela Fleck live in a reasonably intimate setting and absolutely loved the concert! When I bought a CD, I was somewhat disappointed at the "studio" sound (vs live sound) that seemed to lose the pacin...
What about "Pro" vs. Audiophile ?????
I think most of the previous posts address the actual equipment used by the recording engineer. But the mics, amps, cabling, etc. of the musicians are also part of the "weakest link" question that lps2cd is raising. Three observations to add to th...
Okay, now I think I've seen it all...
Probably not a great idea to keep moving the speaker wire and stressing connections. What about a large plant that swivels in front of the speakers during rest and then rotates back behind each speaker during play. That could improve WAF. Probably ...
Best band never to release a truly great album?
Vegasears, with the exception of Dixie Chicken (which I think is one of the best made by anyone) you're right about Little Feat -- they came reasonably close with Time Loves a Hero. Absolutely agree with Roy Buchanan. Government Mule never had a g...
Is it possible for something to be the best?
Albert, if Detlof is right, then it stands to reason that your wife is also musical :-)
Inwall Speaker Cable & Bi-Wire Question:
Sorry Bill. I forgot to get back to you. See hcmaudio.com or the audioquest site for some great deals on those cables.
Best Female Rock Group
What about Melissa Etheridge? Don't know the composition of her band, but she rocks! I too was looking forward to more from 4 non blondes. BTW, I saw Joan Jett live in a small club long ago -- sat right in front 20 ft away -- what a show!!! There'...
Is it possible for something to be the best?
Twl is right -- but there is at least one other dimension of subjectivity. Two people listening to two systems might have different opionions of "best". Since every component makes some sort of compromise (e.g., a bit tighter bass vs. a bit wider ...
Are you spending your time at the computer instead
Why not do both? The "quiet click" keyboard helps. True ... not concentrating as much on the music. Overall though, isn't community as important as art?
What's Your Favorite Party Music?
This is far too important a thread to let languish. What about Colin James and the Little Big Band -- that gets everybody moving!!! Any others that appeal to a broad range of tastes??? (Sean, I had no idea anyone else heard of Hawkwind)
