Your favorite three Rolling Stones songs?
1. Paint it Black, 2. Mother's Little Helper, 3. Sympathy for the Devil (what are the odds, but the third choice tied with Ruby Tuesday and Gimme Shelter)
Stereo or Home Theater?
I agree. The two formats serve two different purposes. The primary driver behind HT is to support the video experience. HT has come a long way and there are a lot of fine components. Is it mid-fi? Generally. But let's define hi-fi. If hi-fi is get...
speaker cable and interconnect different brands?
If you look at the systems that are posted at Audiogon, relatively few use the same brand name throughout the chain (if memory serves). I think that says a lot, considering the obsessive nature of audiophilia (is that a word?). Experiment and see....
My highest praise - for Audiogon
Easy to navigate. Great discussions. Passionate, helpful, knowledgeable members who seldom resort to personal attacks even when opionions diverge widely. Great used gear. Blue book, manufacturer directory ... Pretty cool all around! Thanks Audiogon.
John Entwistle RIP
Wow. A day's gone by and there are only a handful of posts regarding JE. That's as sad as his passing.
Miles Davis, extreme Jazz and the death of Jazz
Some say that David Brubeck may have influenced Miles ... can't say, but Brubeck is still alive and kicking. Innovation since Miles: Look at Corea, Passport, Barbieri (sp?), Weather Report (and those are over a decade old) ... I'm sure there are m...
Is Your System Better Than the Music You Like?
Chicago blues ... oh yeah! I have not yet gotten to the point of being as satisfied as you with my system. That's good for you and bad for me -- you get to spend more money on your music and I have to split that with tweaks to my system. You lucky...
from CAT5 to Kimber 4TC--where's the bass?
Sean, that brings back memories! Bring out the garlic and the crucifix ;-)
SUBWOOFER FOR MUSIC
I hope that better audio tech minds than mine are "listening" in to correct me; I don't believe that running A & B would degrade the sound at low to moderate volumes, but I do think you may be running a risk driving your amps at higher volumes...
John Entwistle RIP
He'll be missed. I bought his first solo effort album some time ago. All that's in storage but I look forward to sitting down with a glass of single malt and spinning it end to end. He helped move bass playing into a more creative, melodic element...
Will Microsoft kill DVD-A and SACD?
To answer your question (IMO): Microsoft will try to kill or steal anything they can't control. I hope Twl is correct and they won't be able to get it to work -- but that's never slowed them down before. My anticipation is that without an initial ...
Inwall Speaker Cable & Bi-Wire Question:
KimberKable makes some nice in-wall cable (12 gauge) but be careful about the gauge requirements on the speakers and, if applicable, in-wall volume controls -- the latter are usually 14 gauge so require some extra work with the Kimbers. Audioquest...
How to ship BIG equipment at moderate cost?
You may also wish to check out airport to airport shipping using the major airlines or freight carriers. I wish I could remember the details (i.e., specific carrier), but I received a pair of 130 lb amps that way and it worked quite well. The down...
from CAT5 to Kimber 4TC--where's the bass?
Just curious, but if you are bi-wiring, why not use the Kimber for the high end and the CAT5 for the bass? Maybe I'm misinterpreting what you meant though.
SUBWOOFER FOR MUSIC
No reason to as far as I know. Let's say that you have four separate cables: Woofer Left (WL), Tweeter Left (TL), Woofer Right (WR) and Tweeter Right (TR). You can hook the amplifier ends of WL and TL to your Left A output and the amplifier ends o...
